Concerns about the bidder on one of my auctions...auction link enclosed...

so don't click if you don't want to. And no this is not some plot to spam this auction on the us coin forum.

Seriously look at this auction of mine...

ebay auction with bidder with way too much negatives

Should I be concerned with his feedback. I noticed he bought from Wayne, and Wayne gave a good feedback.

I was thinking of writing him, just to clarify his intentions, but thought that might be bad. What would you do in this situation?

thanks for your help

The worst thing that will happen is that you will have to file a non-bidder report!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Too many negatives for the amount of actual wins for me. I would cancel his bid and put him on my list of those that aren't allowed to bid on my auctions. IMHO
  • READ the feedback again. You already sold to him,why not now?

Looks like he has bought from several board members with OK results, as well as from you before. However, with 8 negs out of 47 feedbacks, I'd definitely NOT want to deal with this guy. Not worth the aggravation & risk to your 100% positive rating. If it were me, I'd cancel any bids he makes & cite the high neg percentage. A proven non-payer multiple offender.
In any event, a tough business decision, especially considering his prior OK transaction with you.
Successful BST transactions: EagleEye, Christos, Proofmorgan,
Coinlearner, Ahrensdad, Nolawyer, RG, coinlieutenant, Yorkshireman, lordmarcovan, Soldi, masscrew, JimTyler, Relaxn, jclovescoins

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't no optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.

He didn't complete the DHRC transaction on 3 Jan, got a negative from them, but DID complete a transaction in Feb with DHRC with a glowing positive feedback! Looks like DHRC doesn't block bad bidders.........image

BTW, how DO you block bidders? I searched through my eBay preferences, etc., but didn't see any references to this.

  • This is a no brainer. If he is the only bidder take your chances (no one else bid anyway, you can get final value fee refunded) if even one other person bids block him right away, you don't want him to come back with a snipe and ruin a transaction with a good bidder.

Three are very recent. i get the impression that he doesn't consider his bid as binding.

  • As seller, you are in contol. If bidder wants the coin, he will pay. If not , you will not hear from him. File NPB & get $ back, block him from bidding again. Hopefully will get outbid. These kind of situations make ebay exciting!!!image

  • Nothing wrong with communicating directly and qualifying his response. You can always block.

I'd cancel his bid and block him. Not worth the aggravation later.
  • Where did you get that price? image
  • It's interesting that on Oct. 5, tmlawes left negative feedback saying--No payment or response. Don't bid on my auctions anymore. Yet, on Oct. 22 left 12 positives--Easy to deal with! Thanks!!
That humanity at large will ever be able to dispense with artificial paradises seems unlikely. Most men and women lead lives at the worst so painful, and at the best so monotonous, poor, and limited, that the urge to escape, the longing to transcend themselves, if only for a few moments, is and always has been one of the principal appetites of the soul.

You would be foolish to do anything -

    1) A bid on a higher ticket item will get many more views for that item than without any bids

    2) You have dealt with them before successfully - Jan feedback

    3) Just because they are high bidder with over 9 days left does not mean they will be tops when the auction closes.

    4) Underbidders are the ones who drive up prices.

    5) Any correspondence before the close of the auction may deter them from bidding any more.

What is the worst that can happen? If no payment received after 4 weeks file a NPB (they get too many of those they get NARU'd) and transaction fees reimbursed from eBay.

I may be wrong but this coin looks like it may be at close to retail anyway - if so there is a ??% chance of no sale (without this bidder).

I don't specifically recall the transactions and I would have if there were problems. I left feedback in one case the day after the auction ended and in the other two days after so it is clear he paid quickly with PayPal. A third one from me is also on the first page of his feedback but it is old enough to be out of the eBay system. I don't leave appropriate feedback so I can say without a doubt that I had no problems in at least three transactions with this buyer.

Virtually everyone on the first page of his feedback is a member here.

I do block bidders who don't pay or are otherwise problem bidders based on my own experience. I don't very rarely block bidders based on their existing feedback although I do sometimes block them based on experiences they've had with other dealers I know and trust. If he doesn't pay then file an NPD and move one. While I might consider e-mailing a bidder in this situation, I would not do so and would instead give him the benefit of the doubt when he'd succesfully completed a prior transaction with me. Based on my prior experience with him and yours, I say let it run.

Morris, looking at his feedback it is obvious he doesn't pay on a lot of items he wins and doesn't communicate. If he bid on one of my auctions, I would cancel his bid and block him. This type of bidder is going to do nothing but waste your time.
  • K6AZK6AZ Posts: 9,295
One more thing to all the people saying just let him slide and file the NPB- my only two negatives were from NPBs, and both of them lied on their negatives. This can hurt your future auctions, and to me isn't worth the risk. As I said, if this guy bid on one of my auctions, I wouldn't think twice about nuking his bid and blocking him.
