Finally took pix if the 1946 DDR. Top pic is of a regular 1946 in about the same condition. This particular coin must be rare, because everyone has one in much better condition.




Here is something else I picked up at the same time.

Interesting. i had to look close to see it. It's most noticable in the eagles wing feathers. I like the bottom one too.

The branches in front of the eagle's leg is really noticeable also.

Could it just be machine doubling?

You wouldn't get complete doubling of the branches with machine doubling. At first I thought the same thing, until I took a closer look.

Not machine douling on this variety. As I've said before, this one is not too hard to find all the way up to AU-the trick is to find an early die state. These can be identified by the clarity of the doubling on the motto, branch, and the eagle's claws. The wing feather doubling is always nice and clear, even on LDS examples.

Thanks koynekwest. I was being a smart-alec about it being rare. (But you knew that of course.) I'm just tickled pink to have picked it up for $2, even in this condition.
