need pointers on dipping a lightly toned Morgan

I have a 1886 O Morgan that was in a PCGS ms62 holder (value $600) and I cracked it out to try and get a ms63 (value $1800) and it was bodybagged by PCGS twice and NGC for questionable toning. Remewber I said it came out of a PCGS holder. It has light brownish toning and I need to find a way to lightly dip it so it has a chance to get back into a holder, if not it is worth maybe $200 as no one will buy it.

I have heard of a mixture of acetone and water but I need to know the mixture amount. the color is not dark and has not gone into the surface so I figure a light dip will do.

Please give me some options guys/gals

thanks

Why not just send it back in with the original insert to get it reholdered as a 62?

Was it an older label, or one of the present blue ones?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but if he has the original label, why can't he just send the coin in with five bucks or whatever the reholder fee is now, and go back to square one?

  • acetone wont get rid of the toning, just grease and dirt etc. Try jeweluster mixed at 25% jeweluster and 75% water, then rinse well with water, pat dry with terry towel do not rub. That should do it,if it needs more add more jeweluster. image

  • Can't reholder once it's been opened.

Might want to use Distilled Water, not tap.

I'm no pro, but sometimes I use acetone after the final water rinse. Acetone sucks the water off the surface rather quickly, and then the coin can dry very fast with no water on it.

    Hmm.

I've not had any reholdering difficulties with ANACS, provided I didn't dip the coin or mess with it while it was out of the holder. Why would PCGS be any different, provided one is willing to pay the reholder fee?

And if no reholdering at the original grade is allowed, then why is there a reholder fee at all? I've never tried reholdering a coin with PCGS, but surely they offer it, right? Now, I have heard that if it was a previous-generation holder, they might not reholder it or if they did, it would be in a newer-style holder, of course.

the coin has to be in the PCGS holder for them to reholder it.

so I need to find a ms63 insert for my coin and TELL them to reholder it, right?
