I've bought from that seller before. Accurate descriptions, and no mistaking the coin has been described as cleaned. What the bidders are doing..............I have no idea! That date is not THAT tough.
Might have had more to do with being the "top dog" at any cost. I recently was underbidder on an ebay auction where a common date MS65 PCGS saint went for over $1800. The coin appeared to be a killer shot 66/67 coin in an old holder. Other than me and the other bidder, no one was over $1200. I was surprised that someone challenged me on this piece and we both basically were just not gonna let the other guy have it. I was prepared to go to $1400 on it but the last $400 was just ego and figuring it was a lock upgrade. Now that's insanity.....grading from a scan. I did converse with the buyer after the sale and he said the coin was magnificent once he got it and felt it was a legitimate 66+/67 coin.
So who knows on ebay what can happen. Many buyers just don't want to lose.....to anyone.
