1795 Turban Head ( Plain Eagle Reverse ) $5 gold piece in MS65. An unreachable dream for me but, I`ll take one if some charitible person gave it to me for free. It`s my most favorite US coin.
In my opinion, the best 1st year of issue is the Amon Carter specimen of the 1794 dollar. It is struck from the same die state as the copper pattern, AND it also has a silver plug. Go to the NGC web site to read more about this fascinating specimen!!!
Additionally, this coin is gorgeous. What more can you ask for an ED enthusiast? I'm willing to bet that Mr. Cardinal will agree that the Carter coin is the most fascinating 1794 ED.
Agreed about the Amon Carter 1794 dollar, but also:
I have the 2nd-5th trade dollars ever minted. Each has the number designating the coin inscribed by hand above the eagle's head and the set came with a letter from H.R.Linderman to a friend presenting the coins. I'd love to find #1!
1836 Gobrecht Dollar as the denomination returns with a veangence!!! what a simple, yet elegant design with the clear obverse fields and the reverse eagle in the stars!!! Wowzer!!!

Or a 1793 Liberty cap cent in MS65.
We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.

If all values were equal, though, I'm not sure I'd be able to make up my mind.
