Seth- The 2k estimate is probably based on the R5 Judd 211 (broad bust point) This is the rare narrow bust point variety but even so it is probably only worth 3-4k in Pr 63. The best person to ask is Lakesammman. He is working on the 1858 small cent pattern set with all the varieties.
That's a good point, Seth, and you're right. However, even with its rarity, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who wants to pay $3000. Judd is usually the source people turn to, and many people would consider this no more than a minor variety of a common (by pattern standards) pattern.
Any perspective buyer of this pattern would better off putting a healthy bid on this PCGS PR63 listed in Heritage's auction previews for Long Beach. Looks like a nicer coin and is also the pointed bust variety.
I noticed another IH pattern in that sale that made me double-take, the business strike version of the J-300 reeded edge.
