I'm now going to slam the competition

Ready? OK.
I've now seen a few NGC slabbed colonials and I can say, without any doubt whatsover, that whatever criticism I've aimed at PCGS for overgrading these pieces in the past, should be mulitplied by 34 and unceremoniously flung at NGC.
They're bad, Very bad. They're so bad that (this is not the beginning of a joke) I think their grades simply must be an attempt to define a whole new standard that just sort of happens to look like the Sheldon scale, as opposed to someone's interpretation of what a proper XF40 should look like.
There. I feel better now.

Why not 33? 35? Are you sure about that multiplier?

Russ,
because 33 would not be enough and 35 would be too many!

Have you ever looked at NGC certified CWT's????
if you haven't go to Rick Snow's site and view some. I suspect that they may be graded similarly.
LOL
Now don't we feel better.......
So, you think both of the 2 top grading services do a poor job of grading Colonials. Who IS competent?
You say you've "seen a few NGC slabbed colonials". Define "a few".
My MO in the last year has been to 1) judge the piece on its own merits, 2) review any past auction appearances of the same coin to see how it was graded then and 3) see how PCGS grades it.
Ideally, I want coins that do well in all 3 criteria.
A coin I think is great, that has a favorable past auction appearance but that gets slammed by PCGS simply isn't as liquid as one that gets a good PCGS grade, so that does matter to me.
Just my opinion.
That's a pretty harsh statement and, frankly, one that I don't think is supported by the evidence.
