What was your best find in circulation?

Probably a question for the older collectors. What was your best find from circulation? As a kid [in the 50's] I used to go thru a bag of cents once a week. My best find, I found 2- 1955 double dies. Sold them for $10.00 each. In hindsight?? Can anyone beat that.

die out of the collar. I got $20 for a 50-D nickel found in 1964 and sold the same day. There
are numerous rarities that I 've plucked from circulation sinse most people quit looking back
in the 60's though. I found a 1977 quarter with type "d" reverse in AU back in 1982 and num-
erous scarce gems including 83-P, 82-P. Some of the greatest modern rarities have been
plucked out of pocket change.
It's not particularly tough, but just yesterday I got a XF/AU 82-D type "d" quarter. These do
exist in unc (unlike the '77), but how many can be left in this grade?

lower relief and numerous small differences. The easiest way to spot it is to
look at the right side of the "N" in "UNUM. On the type "d" (or small motto var-
iety) it is much further from the eagle's head. Get a few 1984 issues to look at,
since it gets increasingly common the later dates are far easier to find. It appears
on all the 1977 to '84 quarters from both mints except the 82-P. Only the 81-P
appears in mint sets. (rarely)(~.6%)
There are several really neat quarter varieties, but this one is probably the neatest
since it spans so many coins and dates.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Best find I ever had was in a convenience store when I was 14. It wasn't old, or even a coin. It was a fresh $20.00 bill at the entrance to the door!
