I use a CP 4300 and it works fine for coins with the lens it came with. I found the default auto settings didn't do well for coins. Here are the settings I use:
White balance- auto works fine Metering- spot Focus- Bracket Exposure- depends on your lighting setup. For my copy stand using two 75w bulbs, I find +0.7 works the best.
All the other settings work fine with the default auto setting.
Like all the Coolpix models, the 4300 has an excellent macro mode and doesn't need an add-on lens. The flower icon (the center symbol in this pic) will appear on the LCD screen when you are in it.
That's all you can do, because everyone's lighting is different. The major setting to play with are the ones I mentioned. I think after I bought my 4300, it took about 100 shots to get the settings just right.
