California Bust Half Experts

Last week my wife had some old college friends over as part of my son's 3rd birthday celebration. One of them who is from California, brought her sons who said that their grandfather had given them several bust dollars. I pressed further to find out that he is a major collector and vest pocket dealer exclusively in bust dollars. I was most impressed. I think that perhaps only colonial coppers would have impressed me more. I believe that his last name is Downing. Do any of you know him/ Are you a forum member, Mr. Downing? I would love to know.

Sounds as though this could be Sheridan Downey, who is THE BEST specialist in bust half dollars 1794 - 1836. Sheridan has one or two specialized bust half mail bid auctions each year, his descriptions and grading of the halves are as accurate as can be done.

agree, you must be referring to sheridan downey, the market-maker for bust halves.

curiously, he is not a member of bhnc (last i checked), but the son-of-a-gun knows his stuff.
