To all of us penny cherrypickers.

How has your sucess been with buying $25 bricks from the bank>?

I have found a unplated 1986 lincoln and a un stamped planchet in my first brick.
Also had the luck of finding a full roll of wheaties in my current brick.

A bit of a crapshoot, I would think. You'll always find at least a few wheats, sometimes you'll get lucky and find more, like you did. It takes patience and a lot of looking. A good knowledge of varieties is a big help. You won't be able to retire on what you find, but it's a lot of fun. Good luck! image
  • I've found lots of good coins while going through rolls where I work at. One time I got 17 rolls of wheats (they were in the old "steel strong" wrappers, plainly marked WHEATIES). That was about 2 years ago. The best Lincolns that I've found so far (money wise) were 3-1994DDR's. I Ebayed the 2 worst ones, 1 for $46.00 and 1 for $177.00. Also over a dozen 2000P Type 2 rev's and 5-1998P Type 2's, lots of 1972DDO's (the minor ones), 2-1995DDO's, 1-1959D (D/D/D), lots of cuds, clashed dies, grease filled dies, laminations and some beautifuly toned cents. I can't look at all of the coins with my loupe so I know that I've passed up hundreds of other "keepers". Too many coins and too little time.

When going to a bank to buy these, do you have to order them ahead of time, or can you just walk in and tell them what you want?
  • AtcBob, we deal with National City bank. They ask that we order large amounts of coins on Monday or before and they have the coins every Wednesday. You'll probably have to check with your own bank to see how they operate. There are still good coins to be found because every once in a while, someone will cash in large amounts that they've been saving for years or even decades. Good Luck
  • I've got a brick (unopened) that apears to be all new 2002 D pennies.

I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.

Always looking for nice type coins

    my local dealer
  • I hit the small banks int he grocery stores and I have to order ahead of time. Bank of America is my choice and the larger branches have bricks on hand at all time. Be sure to ask for fed wrapped. Ive gone into some places that did not know me and hand me wrapped coins that came from other cherrypickers.

Get on good terms with the tellers, they will look out for you and sometimes call when something comes in that look different.
