Seated Dollars

Hi David:

I recently purchased some uncirculated seated dollars and I'm reviewing them over and over to get my eyes accustomed to how PCGS grades this type of coin. I have some observations that I thought I'd check with you:

Compared to the trade dollars, it appears PCGS is slightly tighter on the seated dollars. Coins that I would grade 64 as a trade dollar are graded 63, etc. Can you comment on this?

On the no motto coins, it appears that the reverse area above the eagle can definitely knock a coin down a grade. Is this a key grading area for this type?

Thanks for your time!

Bruce...I really haven't thought about it like that and am honestly having trouble mentally making the comparison (getting old I guess.) Maybe it's because we see so few Seated dollars (and Trades too) in your kind of quality. Maybe we can hook up at Long Beach or the ANA and you could show me some coins and we can talk about it with the coins in front of my face. You know how much I love Gemmy Seated dollars...David
