Very nice clean fields...Obverse looks like a Double Die (lettering and date) or were you just so excited to have such an exquistite example of Modern Americana that you could not control your hand tremors whilst snapping the picture?????!!!!!!??????
As Franklins go, I suppose I've seen worse. I'd like to know just what went through the minds of the designers of the Franklin Halves, and who approved the design,,,unbelievable!! Was it supposed to be like a practical joke or something?? Hey!! I know, let's design a coin with an old bald man with a double chin and a big bell on the back,,,wow!! sounds attractive! And people actually collect these things?? even more unbelievable!
BTW, that coin is a pointed nine, and is now an NGC PR69UCAM top pop unique coin. Unfortunately, it wasn't me who submitted it, but the forum member who bought it from me for $15 and change. AARRGGHHHHHHHHHH!

Nellie Tayloe Ross had been thinking of a tribute to Franklin going back to the 1930's. At first they thought of putting Franklin's likeness on the cent, but in deference to Lincoln, they decided to put it on the Half. The job of designing the new half fell on chief engraver John Sinnock who designed the obverse and put the Liberty Bell motif on the reverse. Sinnock never saw the end product of his work, as he died before the final design was approved. Although the commission on fine arts dissaproved of the design, Tayloe Ross loved it - and therefore she was the driving force behind it's adoption, which during it's lifetime was well received.

We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
I guess I must have bumped the camera during the shot to create that doubling look. Either that, or it might be slab reflection.

I suspected he knew that all along, but, have you ever encountered one of the couple hundred (with autographed card) presentation pieces? Anyone?
