Collecting idea

Here's an interesting idea for a collecting pursuit:

Collect one coin per catalog per major sale [along with the catalog]. Even better if the coin is plated in the catalog. Best if you can get one of the coins on the cover!

That could make for a great exhibit at a coin show!

Speaking of which, TDN, have you ever considered exhibiting your collection at an ANA? Baltimore???

TDN, that is an excellent idea. It won't even blow your budget if you pick carefully. There were coins in the Queller sale, for example, that went for a couple hundred or less.

Better just to have the catalogue from each sale and to have one coins from each of the known collections sold whether from auction sale or not.

I have many coins in my "reference" collection that have come from some of the Biggest name sales in the last 25 years. It is very important to save the 2X2 insert of the sale even if you have it professionally graded.

One of my friends has the 1844 dollar that is on the poster of the Childs sale. He got it for that reason, and I think he got the poster autographed by someone important associated with the sale.

EVillageProwler: Even better were the large cardboard backed posters that B&M used for the Childs sale that I saved when they were about to dump them in the garbage right after the sale. Even Jay Parrino and Dave Bowers thought that was a good move on my part. image
