Draped Bust Halves in Au-What do they sell for

Draped Bust Half Dollars.... I am just trying to get a handle on what this coin is trading at in the different grades of AU: 50,53,55, and 58. I am talking about coins graded by PCGS or NGC and problem free with good eye appeal. Also this is just for common date and variety type coins I see them all over the board from $2000-$5000. Will truely great Au 58's bring close to MS60 money??

Thanks,
Jay

I don't know for sure on Draped Bust Halves..... But I think in any series a true au58 that is really nice with great luster and problem free, will bring MS60 money and even more. I've paid about ms62 money on a au58 Barber quarter.

  • stman,

I see a lot of coins sell at MS money, but don't know what the bust coins do. The price jump is pretty dramatic for these coins.

    Jay,

In the last six months I have purchased several NGC and PCGS draped bust halves in AU50 and AU55 at prices from $2070 - $3680. Draped bust halves really jump in price in AU grades, some of the AU Queller halves sold for MS prices at Stacks, at a recent Superior auction a couple of slabbed AU common variety 1806 DBH's realized MS prices ($6000+). These coins had exceptional luster, bold strikes, and eye appeal. I believe XF40 is the best value for draped bust halves at $600-$800.

Draped bust halves are an excellent series and challenging to collect.
