National- Plans for Evening Meeting

Last year there were 10 of us or so who hooked up at the steakhouse for dinner. It was a great time for all. I'm looking to plan a reunion of the same group plus others who may be interested in joining us. I have a few local places in mind, but it depends on the size of the group. All the guys who met last year, email me your thoughts. rjc012661@aol.com

    Sounds like a blast.

I'm expecting to be in AC from Thursday AM until probably Saturday around noon. By that point, I'll probably be out of money with credit cards to their limit. Thursday night might be the night to do it.

There are limited choices as to where you can have large groups meet in AC. AC is a gamling town and not much else for those who havent been there before. Please put your email addresses in your post or email me and I'll forward all info to you as to what the plans are. rjc012661@aol.com

I'm definitely interested. However, PSA is supposedly planning something too, so we probably want to be sure both events aren't on the same night.
  • I heard the Nationals is back in Cleveland this year. If so, enjoy the show, the flats, and hammer a cold one down for me.

  • I am interested in meeting the collectors on this board. I live in the Philadelphia area and can be helpful in setting up reservations somewhere if the group gets really large (15 to 25 people).

I doubt the casinos will accept large reservations but there are a few real good local places that will. Sabatini's for one

    Dude and Mithchondria,

Are we even sure that PSA is hosting a group meeting? Has anyone confirmed it? The National is less about 90 days away and I haven't heard anything personally regarding a meeting other than BJ Searles saying that it was a good idea...and this was last year after our get together.

I am only going to stay for a couple of nights (max) and I am tenatively planning on flying in Thursday night and leaving Saturday night around 6:30pm. I can be flexible about my arrival time on Thursday...but I need to go ahead and get my flight arrangements booked.

    Regards,

    Alan

Is everyone available Thursday evening? Here's a message from BJ

    <Alan,

The date has not yet been set for the reception, although I can tell you that it will be either Friday or Saturday evening. I have put in another request to the PSA show planning committee to lock down a date for us and will post it as soon as I know it. Thanks.

  • Here's hoping that PSA will not wait until Saturday night to hold the event. I will be long gone by then. Thursday night is good and Friday night I think would be a consensus best. Anyone else?

RAY B - I'm with you! I will be hitting A. City on Wednesday afternoon and checking out prior to the Hotels weekend rate of $300+ nightly. So by Friday afternoon, I will be on the Garden State Parkway heading home. I figured the few $ that I bring can be easily spent within a couple hours of the show. No need to be there 3 or 4 days...jay

I'm figuring to be penniless by Saturday morning.

The current plan is to have a room for Thursday and Friday night - so yes - I'm with Ray and Jay - those two nights are definitely the best for me.

  • I just saw this thread and I have a question.

Superior Sports will be doing something different during Nationals. The will be having a live auction on Thursday and Friday evening (two sessions).
How many of you may be attending that auction?

I agree that Saturday night will not be good. I too plan to leave town Saturday afternoon.

For some reason I get the feeling that this dinner event will exceed any eatery's seating capacity for a group unless we reserve a banquet room or something. Perhaps someone should explore that option.

    Carol,

Do you have a time for the Superior auctions? I'm sure that different timeframes would have different impacts on any get-togethers.

  • Maybe they are looking at setting up an open bar and all you can eat prime rib surf and turf buffet at the live auction. Instead of a bidder paddle you can have your bidder number put on a lobster bib or on the underside of a beer mug. I think the cost of the buffet will be more than covered with spirited bidding from set registry participants.

If Superior provided an open bar at the auction, they would probably double their profits with this crowd! image Great idea.

Yeah, that would be great. I'd be sucking that last drop out of my mug during a '52 Topps Mantle auction, they'd see my bidder number on the bottom, and I'd end up having to sell my entire collection to pay for one card! image

  • I'm working that auction..no booze for you! image

I don't have the Supeior auction times as of yet. and I don't want to guess because I know I will be wrong.

Whoever is doing the good deed of setting this up should establish a time and place ASAP - I think a lot of us really want to attend, but we need a lot of notice so we can plan accordingly. I would imagine Thursday or Friday evenings being ideal - perhaps around 7-8 pm. In any event, please post details here so we all can prepare to attend. Thanks to whoever is heading this up!

If I may be so bold, what about if the PSA folks arrange a reception an hour or 2 before the Superior auction. It will serve the obvious purpose of us registry folk matching faces w/ names and many of us will be in the right place to do some bidding as well. And to add to this scenerio, the other get together that Bob mentioned can be arranged after the
auction as that would be a nice cap-off to a full day, burgers and beer sounds good!...jay
