esnipe is crunched on 65 set

Well, after many hours of work trying to make a foray into the '65 set, I placed my esnipe bids. Well over 200 of them. Only about 25 of them went off. I thouht that might happen, so I had set the bid time to 20 seconds before auction end, but it didn't help. image I m sure that I am not the only one, so I guess that Mastro lost big $$$ by having the auctions all go off at once.

It is certainly frustrating to have spent all of that time for nothing.

yep i wanted the 65 stottlemyre and a few others
that sold for less than my failed snipes

  • As I said in the other thread I had about 75 snipes not work. I had even staggered them starting at 45 seconds before ending time and going down to 12 seconds before the end but it still failed me. I'm sure on my snipes alone there was a lot of money left on the table.

  • A quick look at my failed snipes, and I estimate that the loss for Mastro on my snipes alone is $4000 to $6000. I mised over 200 auctions, mostly for PSA 9's, and a the prices of many were $25 to $40 less than I bid. My bids that got through, I was usually 2nd bidder, and 3, count them, 3 of them were wins, so I think a lot of guys got some great deals, while Mastro lost some cash.

Well, that is not too bad a thing, I guess. Just wish I was the one with the deals!

lets try to keep this to one thread...it will be easier for all

    John
  • I doubt that all of my snipes would have gone to the max bid but I easily had $4000 in bid increases with my snipes. I think that this set should have gone well above smr but didn't because of the way it ended.

With the failed snipes, are all of these tied to esnipe.com or were people having similar problems with other sniping servies?

  • Hi John,

Sorry about the second thread. I thought the one you started was to discuss the results, and who won what, etc. I started this thread mostly out of frustration, and it is not a discussion of results, but rather of the failure of the snipe service.

I used esnipe. I bid mostly at 20 seconds to go, figuring I would beat all of the other snipers, if it was to get jammed. Toppsgun was right, however. A lesson learned, as they say.

How many people think the seller has read these messages and is kicking himself?

    It was fun to watch!

    Don
  • Thats why I think it's a mistake for a seller to have all auctions go off at once. Rather have them all end within an hour or 2 of each other.
  • As a safegueard to all of these complaints, all of you should have placed a bid near the end of the auction with 90 percent of your snipe price. As you know your bid will automatically be raised if necessary. As a frequent seller, I disagree with those of you that say sniping actually raises prices. Lots of bids raise prices.
Always buying high grade Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton cards!!!

  • The only thing that raises prices is two (or more) bidders bidding on the same item, regardless of whether it's manual or electronic. The only caveat is they both have to get their bids in before the hammer falls.

I'll always marvel at the time I put in an insane 3-figure bid on a 1963 PSA 8 common, feeling quite smug I'd win easily. Much to my dismay, I lost by the $2.50 increment. No telling how high the winner actually went. But I can almost guarantee you he never expected to pay 3 figures, either.

    BTW, I won the same card a few days later for half that and it was better centered. The next one will probably go for less than what I paid for mine. C'est la vie. {French quote to annoy all the blood-thirsty, hawkish, right-wing extremists, of which I am one.}

I have never heard of such a mass breakdown of Esnipe's systems! I apologize for all of the missed sales -- but I am sure that many of you were happy with your purchases, and perhaps you won some of your auctions for less than you otherwise would have paid. Nonetheless -- I think ending so many hundreds of auctions at the same time (especially when they target one specific collecting niche) cost the seller potentially thousands of dollars.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Why are you apologizing Schmidty? Do you own Esnipe?

    Isn't Elvis still alive?

Didn't the shots from the grassy knoll really come from a storm drain?

Didn't someone call 911 from Vincent Foster's apartment?

Didn't the owner of eSnipe want most of the those '65 Mastro cards for himself?

If esnipe has this many missed snipes, why don't you change your sniping service? I have used just snipe for about 6 months now, with few problems. When I did have a few snipes not go through, I emailed them about it and they suggested that I place 2 snipes for every auction. I've done this ever since on every auction I snipe and have not had another failed snipe.

Some of you esnipers must be thinking "this has got to be expensive!". I know esnipe charges a per snipe rate for auctions you win. Just snipe does not. I pay $5.00 per month for unlimited sniping. I checked my history on just snipe - I've sniped 851 auctions since I've been using this service and probably won about 90% of them! I also know that I've had snipes on multiple auctions that closed at the sime time and went through with no problems. I've had 8 failed snipes and all of them were prior to me placing 2 snipes for each auction.

I hope this was useful to some of you.

    JEB.

    Edited to add this:

For anyone who doesn't snipe often, they also have a free snipe service that allows 5 snipes a week.
  • Browntoni,

One of the reasons I used the sniping service is that I couldn't have placed 75 bids for 90% of my snipes near the end of the auction. I agree thats a great idea if you're bidding on a single auction but not with that many closing at once.

"the best laid plans of mice and men ... "

Who'd have ever thunk that just placing normal bids like toppsguns did,
would have ended up being the most successful bidding strategy ?

Thanks all for the entertainment, reminds me of back in the old days,
when we'd wait till the last minute to bet on a horse, and then get shut out before we could get the bet down !
