New Jefferson Nickel Purchase ....Picture added

I went down to my local coin shop this morning. He was a little busy. He was making a deal with another customer while I was there. We started talking while I was looking through the coins. I told him I was collecting the early proof Jefferson nickels. He then told me that he had just bought a 1939 Doubled Monticello in AU. He showed me the coin and I asked him how much he wanted for it. He wanted $50 dollars so I purchased the coin. The person that sold him the coin had bought it from him in 1995 for $75. I will try to post some pictures of the coin in the next few days. I am satisfied with the purchase.

I can not post a picture right now because I am over at my mother's house and the camera that she has does not have macro mode therefore I can not get good pictures. I will probably post pictures Sunday evening sometime. I am sorry to keep you in suspense.

Here is a picture of the doubling on the word Monticello. It is not as distinct as the doubling pictured in the red Book but at the price compared to one in uncirculated condition I could not pass it up. Th doubling is best seen on the letters L and the letter O. Do you think I should send this in to ANACS to get it graded?

A neat variety but just in case you weren't aware, the reason it doesn't look like the one in the Red Book is because it's different. It would appear to be FS-022.5 which is a quadrupled die reverse although I can't even tell that for sure from the scan. It has a decent interest factor but the coin referred to as the Doubled Monticello is FS-022 which shows much wider doubling and is the more important of the two. If yours is the QDR then $50 seems like a reasonable price, I just hope that your dealer didn't try to pass it off on you as the better one.

I have one at PCGS at this moment for slabbing. It is the same one that you see in the redbook. It will probably only grade Fine. I got it out of a roll that I purchased for $2.00.........Ken

Thanks for clearing that up for me Tonelover. Do you thank it would be a good idea to get it graded at ANACS? Once again thanks for explaining which variety it is.
