I Finally Found One at a Fair Price! (MS67RD Copper Memorial Cent)

1977-P MS67RD Lincoln
I've been looking for an MS67 copper memorial cent for a long time. They always sold for more than I was willing to pay for a modern.

That is more than just a fair price- that's a bargain. Jamie offers great coins and his pricing structure is terrific. Looks like a winner!

    Congrats Brian,

I know I was the proverbial bump in the road for you a couple of times but glad it worked out for you. Now you can start hunting for the MS68RDs - there are a few of them pre 1982 you knowimage

    Take care, Dave

    Pat, Dave,
Thanks. The 77-P has a much lower pop than the 74-D.
Dave--you didn't get in my way; I could have bid more if I really wanted those.

I already updated the type set... one more coin and I can be in the top five (again)

Very nice coin. Surprisingly it probably didn't come from a mint set judging
    by it's color.

Brian - Nice find; good for you pulling the trigger fast. image

Dave - Interesting question about how many ms68s are out there; the pop report shows 6 for sure - 1974D, 1976 (2), 1977, 1979 and 1981. Then there are the 1982s and 1982Ds - can't really tell if any are copper. I would doubt that many, if any, are copper, but I recall datentype once telling me he thinks that some of the 68s he has made were copper rather than zinc. image

    In addition to these there are likely to be 68, 68-S, 69, 70-S, 71-S, 72-S, 74, and 78 in MS-68.
Some which are relatively common in 67 may not exist in 68 though. Unless they can be found
rolls, the 72-D is likely to be the toughest memorial in MS-65.

Cladking: As much as I too like the 1972(d) Lincoln Cent as a scarce date in top grade, PCGS has already graded 126 specimens in MS66RD and 5 specimens in MS67RD. Compare that to the 1972(s) Lincoln Cent - where PCGS has graded just 52 MS66RD specimens and 1 MS67RD. For 1972, it is the "s" mint coin that is the "killer". image Wondercoin

Go figure. They sure don't show up much in mint sets. I should have spent more time
looking at rolls, but those which are available generally cost a lot more than mint sets.
The 72-S is pretty easy to find real nice in sets but there aren't many just-missed coins.

    Thanks for the info Wondercoin.
