Is anyone a Seated 1/2 dollar expert? - Coin Picture Posted!

I have a couple of scans I would like someone to look at and give me an honest opinion based upon the scans. I don't have a way to post them.

It would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

If you mail them to me, I will post them for you. I also love Seated Half Dollars, in fact, all Seated coinage..

I would say EF4-45, possibly lightly cleaned a long time ago, Ungradable by PCGS/NGC due to rim damage and staple scratch in the field.
  • XF40. Bodybag for scratch and rim dings. Also bad cleaning job.

I would say higher grade (50-53), but agree on the BB for cleaning and/or damage. Of course it is just a picture...

  • My opinion:

ANACS would say: EF details, net VF30 "scratched-cleaned"

    Edited to consider the cleaning.
    Go well.

Can someone enlighten me why you think it's cleaned?...I'm still learning.
Also, is the scratch on the right obverse field that bad? Aren't those hits on rim normal for the circulated coins?
    I thought it's a nice coin.....image

I agree that it is a coin that I wouldn't mind owning. But ANACS (and the other two) are very tough on large scratches in the obverse fields in grades above F-15. If you bought the coin sight unseen as an XF 45/40 and when you got the coin saw the large scratch, there is a good chance you would be disappointed. The grading services strive to put a grade on the coin that would result in 90% of folks being satisfied with the coin they received sight unseen.

As to the cleaning, it didn't appear as severe to me as to others. But in the higher circulated grades; cleaning needs to be mentioned for seated coins.

One opinion...take it with a grain of salt.

    Go well.

    Now I understood...thanksimage
But won't NGC/PCGS also net grade this coin instead of BB?
I have a seated coin graded MS60 by NGC...I think it will be MS63 if not for a deep(if not long) scratch on reverse field.
I know it depends on severity of the scracth, but how about the coin above?
