Woo hoo! 1944D Merc 67FB!

nwcsnwcs Posts: 13,386 ✭✭✭
Well, a week ago I called NGC to see how one submission went. They told me both mercs were 67. But she neglected to tell me the 1944D did indeed get FB like I thought it would. Got this beauty for $46 in Charlotte. Not sure what its market value is, but I'm sure it is more than $46.

I also have a 1937 in MS67 in the same order. But that one wasn't a FB for sure. But I'm glad that the person who read out the grades over the phone to me omitted that FB. It made my day happier today. image

Thanks Wayne. I knew it wasn't super valuable but it sure is super nice. As I think about it, I think I got it for less than $46. That may have been what I paid for both this and the 1937. Doesn't matter, though. Shows that the grading class did me good. image

Yes, dimes are so small that even a tiny mark with pull them out of 67. So, the ones that make it are typically look very nice. Sounds like a boost to the cherry pickin' confidence. You'll be raring to go for the next show.

Although the 44D is known for exceptional quality, your example shows superior luster and stunning eye appeal. I love this coin. Very nice. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. My kind of thread.image

Very nice. Now, that is the way I like to see them. Bright white, solid strike, and no marks!

The luster is top notch. I wonder, though, what a 68 is supposed to look like? The highest I saw was 67 so I was fairly comfortable in grading this a 67 raw before sending it in.

I have been migrating to the mercs a bit more. I think I can complete a late-date short set without outspending myself. And by doing it raw, I can get some real bargains. Then it will be the question mark of getting them encapsulated for registry. But that'll be a question for MUCH later!

    Neil:

For the money I think you did real well - so the coin isn't the rarest in the world - I tell you what - there are very few coins that can compete with the beauty of this one - excellent type piece!

    Great job!
