Who at PSA DECIDES to make changes in a player REGISTRY SET?

They changed the BOGGS SET! Major changes!!! THey reduced the basic set from what I can tell from 267 to 150. I knew I made some mistakes when I suggested it over a year ago. I was going to submitt a few subtractions from the set...about 30 or so. Topps all star glossys some modern cardsetc........You think they would contact the set builders and say hey this is what we propose what do you think? At least an heads up "were going to change the set you have been working on for over a year ............................." I was getting ready to submitt but from what I can tell they removed some of my cards. THANKS PSA for the heads up!

James

BOGGS - I would assume any deductions they did in the Wade Boggs set they would utilize for other modern player sets too! Thats why they probably didn't contact you. They can't cater a set of Mike Schmidt, Reggie or anybody else and use different criteria for your set. Its still a system that needs some adjustments until they can get a uniform structure...jay

They should have made some general rulesfrom the onset. When I made the list there wasnt another player set on the registry. I put a lot of work into it.( yes psa put money and time into as well) And alot of work assembling the cards to submitt. I have a box of cards that are in the set (psa player) and have spent money and time getting the Registry player cards in PSA condition and have spen countless hours going over them. I am a little disapointed in PSA and mostly venting I guess. A year later they just pull it and change it.

  • Sorry about the mispost.

    Jame.
Was checking out your Boggs set. Quite impressive.
Have a dumb question to ask.
What is the difference between the player set and the basic/master set? Still waiting for my Ozzie set to pop up.

The diffrence is a basic set is just htat basic cards from when a player started his carrer til he retired. In the case of Boggs no Jersey /autograped cards. No numbered cards No cards from small sets(not many I included a few) Master set is every card Made by Major card companys. The boggs from my understanding will be well over 1000 probly closer to 1500 cards. I wil attpempt it but not in my lifetime will I finish it. And thanks for the KIND words regarding my set. Good luck on the OZZIE SMITH SET.

James, as always that is a great set.

I went though the same thing with Pete Rose. When it was turned into a Basic and a Master, many cards were added to the Master set. All it took was a collector requesting a new card to be added. As long as it was graded, BJ added them. The set was 200 cards to start and now is 254. I am sure that eventually this set could go to 500+, which would be a nightmare to collect. Boggs has to difficult with the card explosion of the 90's.

Look at it as more to collect and a mission to complete, even if you do not.

    James,

For several months now we have been making changes in the basic and master sets so that all sets conform. I announced this in an email I sent out earlier this year to all PSA Set Registrants and I have also been announcing it in the PSA email newsletter that goes out every other week. I apologize if you did not see these announcement.

This morning we loaded the Boggs basic set and edited the master set. As we have explained for at least 4 months, all master sets will now contain only cards graded by PSA. However, if you read the description, you will see that the master set is a work in progress. Anytime you have a card graded that is not listed in the set and is in the player's play years, you can certainly have it added to the set. Eventually, all player sets will have this same format. If you check the news page, you can see what player sets have been updated recently.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

    Ben,

It just so happens that I compiled the Ozzie Smith just set this morning. It still needs to be formatted. Once that happens it will need to be weighted and the basic cards identified. If you would like to help with this, I'll send you the spreadsheet. Just email me and let me know and your email address is.

  • i have the same problem with the Gretzky basic set, for some reason they deleted all his opc cards from the 1980's. now the majority of the set consists of newer cards that few hardcore gretzky collectors chase after

    Goodriddance,

The minute you have some OPC cards graded, we will add them to the Gretzky set. Just email us. As I explained above, the master sets are works in progress.

    BJ:

Just a reminder that many of us here truly appreciate all the hard work and efforts put forward by both you and Gayle in getting many of the Player Registry sets up an running. I know that there have been a few kinks along the way -- but you two more often than not are able to add cards expeditiously, manage competing interests, and help further the PSA Registry idea into a lot of collectors who may not necessarily fall into the traditional "set-building" paradigm.

With all the time and efforts you put into PSA, PCGS and other technological issues, I hope that you are able to have a nice and relaxing weekend! Thanks again for all your efforts-

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • BJ and Gayle are great when it comes to working with you to make a set happen. I've seen their efforts first hand. They make it easy to get your set listed, and updated if you happen to miss a card or 2 in your initial listing. Thanks for the hard work!!!

Enjoy the holidays AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER Gayle & BJ.

Poor BJ,I had a friend of mine ask me to help him get under way his Emmit Smith Registry set.I email BJ asking about its progress and she's there in a second.Since I don't collect football I call my friend and relay BJs questions and phone # to him.I feel bad that by the lack of my friend not calling her and his inability to answer her questions because he's rather new to the registry and graded cards held her up when she could have been working on something else.

I forwarded his email and phone # to BJ and hopefully they will be able to make that set come to life unless the guy who requested the set reads this and gives her the hand she needs with it.

Gayle, Cosetta, and I thank YOU. I am continually amazing at how helpful (and patient) the members of the Registry are. With collectors now helping us weight and identify the basic cards for the player sets, we have made some headway on that never-ending request list and recently we have also received some help with non-player set weighting. All of this makes the Registry a better and more dynamic place and we really, really appreciate it.

You all have a great weekend, too!

I have dealt with the three of you since I have had my set registered. All my issues were resolved above and beyond the expected level of service, often the same day. It definitely makes a difference to the small guy! Many people that do not submit are members on the PSA Registry. They could become future users of PSA's services and they do support PSA's market presence as the industry leader.

I do not want to change the subject, but has anyone tried to work with the SGC Registry? imageimageimage

  • sixdart- you are right on the money. i have never dealt with another sports card related company that offers such stellar customer service.
thumbs up to everyone at psa

One of my main questions was WHO decides what is listed? Regarding the Boggs set(basic) fleer is listed but 1992 94 -2000 is omitted ...WHY? That is just one example. I Applaud you for all the work.

And the MASTER set I have numerous cards that are graded but arent in the MASTER set , 1 st example 1992 Fleer ULTRA graded but not in the set.

BJ a side not I will email also . You have my Master set with an 1984 OPC 9 , I havent listed an opc , I have the 84 topps in a 9.....But I will be submitting my 1984 TOPPS OPCPSA 8 ...later

SORRY for the typo's on a quick break at work.

    James,

The determining factor of which cards go into a master set is whether or not the card has been graded by PSA. The master set will eventually contain all cards for that player within his play years. But as you know, PSA has not yet graded them all. We're working on that!

It is possible I may have missed a card or two. When I pull the information from the database, if PSA has not labeled the card with the player's name, my search will not find it. This happens frequently with League Leader cards. If I have indeed missed any cards that have been graded by PSA within Boggs' play years, by all means email me your list and we'll get them added for you.

    Thanks.

P.S. The original set that was online became the master set. I added a brand new basic set this morning. Basic sets contain only mainstream cards, with no LL cards or special cards.
