Buy the slab...not the coin.

Let's all give up. Numessamists...........nusmistamests....... COIN collectors are dinosaurs and the slab has hit the earth. Someday, they'll find bones holding a raw coin and smiling.
Scientists will KNOW he was very ancient. They will gaze in sympathetic wonder.

  • Yeah, but if they only find one skeleton with a slab-in-hand and that slab is an ACG, will they consider that generation/lineage intellectually challenged ??

That raw coin find will be toned, I'll bet.
  • In fact, what if it is Dorkkarl and in one hand he had a slab and in another he had a hammer (which was NOT found when the skeleton and slab were found together) what would future archaeologists think ??

  • Wow, that is at least $100 (minimum, depending on service originally used) for that hardened oil.

Topstuf's post got me thinking. There are special terms for those wh collect stamps (Philatalist), coins (Numismatist), paper money (Scripoligist) (sp), transportation tokens (Vecturist), and tokens/medals (exonumist). We need a term for people who collect slabs.

    "Maslabochists"

Darn, after all this lurking, somehow I didn't think my first post would be along these lines.

    How about plasticists. or plastophiles?

Welcome aboard Deadhorse. We have been known to be hard on deadhorses here,
but we'll no doubt try to make an exception for you.

    Plastologists? Numismoplastocists? Numismoplastologists.

I kinda like that last one. It's just crazy enough to say it all.image

  • Morris, don't plastologists perform slabectomys?

  • cladkingcladking Posts: 28,701 ✭✭✭✭✭
Slabectomies are performed only in successful cross-over operations
and are very highly valued by numismoplastologists.

  • I believe K6AZ is engaged in a contest to see how many ACG slabs a person can amass...image
  • just keep in mind that in the days of the dinosaur, that slabbed coin was
nothing more than a lump of ore and a cup of crude oil, more or less...
  • and with that observation, I am...

Hopefully only the last 1% have been totally worthless image
  • About a year ago (or so) I had coined the phrase (pun totally intended) of "Slabby Joes".

Some folks liked that others didn't (unlike anything else on the boards or in life).
