Coin numbers rarely make sense (examples for Sacs):

    9584 2000-P SAC $1 MS
    99584 2000-P SAC $1Goodacre MS
    9585 2000-D SAC $1 MS
    99585 2000-D SAC $1Millennium MS
    15000 2001-P SAC $1 MS
    15001 2001-D SAC $1 MS
"It's far easier to fight for principles, than to live up to them." Adlai Stevenson
  • I believe the whole numbers are reserved for regular issues, and the 1A, 2A would be reserved for the millenium and goodacker coins and such. As for the proofs, they would be counted on the proof category and their numbers would not be included in the business strikes.

  • To explain better 2000 P and D are coins 1 and 2 - 2001 P and D are coins 3 and 4 - 2002 P and D are coins 5 and 6 - 2003 P and D should be 7 and 8 but I see coin 6 on the slabs of both the 2003's. I do not have one yet but have been looking and saw this just confused. I'm not at home to check my 2002's.

  • Goodacker was the designer of the Sac - she had a number of signed copies certified and they're one of the high ticket items in the sac dollar set

One of the accounting guys could help here.

those guys started some weird numbering system that goes something like this

account number - item and sub items
    500 sandwiches
    5001 onions
    5002 tomatos
    5003 green peppers

i'm on to something here but can't explain it totally. Notice in Steve27's example of listings the similarities of date/mm and coin number. I think it's related to being able to catalog a number and allow for variations in the future.
