Image-hosting site recommendations?

I know this topic comes up from time to time, but I’m looking for a new image-hosting site for pictures, and I was wondering what sites people have had good luck with. It doesn’t have to be free, but it does need to be reliable (little down time), fast, and have no ads. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Jim

JR, I use picturelist.com. I think it's about $20 for the year and far more space than I'll ever use. About a year ago they were having lots of trouble as demand surged and they weren't ready for it, but I haven't had any problems in quite a while.

I wanted to add: if you have AOL, you can use their free space (I think it's up to 20 megs per screenname for hosting pictures.) I typed up a tutorial for AOL image posting a while back that I'll be happy to send to anyone who wants it.

    edit: typo
  • Hi Dan.....could you email me the info on AOL image hosting. I've heard it's available........but it's certainly not easy to find it from them!

For now i have freepic.com....and can't stand the name creeping onto the photo's once they get viewed a certain amount of times.

    thanks, Joe T

Edited to add: Thanks for the info Dan sent me. Hope i can get it working soon!

  • Thanks Dan and WWW. I'll check those two sites out.

Dan, I do have AOL and Pacbell.net. It's been some time since I last tried AOL's image-hosting service. As I recall, it wasn't very user friendly, which is why I used a different (not free) image-hosting service in the first place. I wouldn't mind revisiting AOL's image-hosting service, and I would appreciate instructions. Thanks Dan.

That's the trouble with free hosting sites. They're either unreliable, or they have annoying things like that banner that joejeweler has to deal with. (Say, what's with Tripod and some of those image hosting services that don't allow remote linking to the pics? Useless!)

I've used Andale.com since '99, when they were Honesty.com, and free. I haven't truly been happy with Andale since they swallowed Honesty and started charging money, though.

It's not their fees, and they are certainly stable and reliable (a must!) What bothers me is that they have so many services and other stuff I don't want, and they make you slog through a bunch of that garbage every time you log in. I just want image hosting, and I want fast access to my image library without having to look at all that other crap!

This is a timely thread, as I am due to renew my Andale contract soon (I usually prepay for a year). I would like to find another service, and one as cheap as possible, but I don't want to give up Andale's reliability. Believe me, I tried other services like Boomspeed.com and some others, and a "free" service that costs you money by crashing or taking forever to load your important auction pics just ain't worth it, free or not!

So I need a cheap, simple to use site with fast loads and stability. Something that offers image hosting without trying to sell me a bunch of other auction tools I don't want or need.

If Andale.com would change their log-in so I didn't have to slog through all that junk, and could pow! go to my images, I'd consider keeping them.

I actually have 10 MB from my ISP (Bellsouth), but no idea how to access it or use it. 10 MB would probably cover most of my needs, actually.

Price VS available space, bandwidth and Network reliability. Those are the key tenants of image hosting. Unless you need good customer service and technical support, then that too.
