    Grandam,
The pop had been 3. Your's would be #4.

  • Wow, the 4th MS69 72s, congratulations Grandam !!! I guess you have now answered my question about what your encore would be from your other great submissions a month or so ago !!!

I believe that the other 3 MS69 72s's were graded prior to Oct 1998. I also believe that the popular opinion was that at least 2 of the 3 were not true MS69's (I'll try to bring up that old thread).

    Job well done again !!!

Excellent! I love these coins in super high grades. Yours must be a screamer! Did you have a hunch it would go 69 when you submitted or are you just a surprised?

I knew I had several MS68's in the bulk lot I sent in & I was expecting several MS68's. I knew I had one coin that was exceptional,,,,,,, BUT NO,,,,, I never figured on a MS69. I won't have the coin in-hand until the middle of next week. PCGS should mail it out tomorrow.

WOW, no one has made an offer (at least publicly). How about $1! Although it contains some silver, the thing is so ugly, this ought to cover more than it is worth. While we rarely do things right with coinage, getting rid of this disgustingly ugly coin was one move in the right direction, not that things that followed were any improvement. I think we are destined to have no dollar coin.

What a nice comment that "dbldie55" has made!image

Can't you be at least happy for "Grandam" for making this wonderful coin. I think that your comment is UGLY and not worth $1.

I have read some of your threads in the past and think that you make some of your comments on this board w/o thinking.

Will offer $3,000 publically for all to see. However, the offer is sight seen and the coin must be a true 69. Look, before Wondercoin tells youimage, I'm sure the offer is way too low and that Grandam will not sell there. But, just wanted to let doubters know that there is a strong IKE market right now.

  • I did see the pops updated with 4 (instead of three). Good job again !!!

Regarding posting a picture, I will give you one way, which will embed the picture in the actual post.

First, go to windows where your image file exists (i.e. let's say it is in --> c:picturesms69ike.jpg where 'pictures' is your directory/sub-directory where the file exists and the filename is 'ms69ike.jpg'. You can copy the name from the address name (third line in your windows session) OR you can just type over my example and copy (CTRL + C) the whole name. Next, click on the picture icon (this is located between the 'U' for underline and the 'http' buttons). If you need more help, find 'Message Text:' in your post window and look right under the 'xt:'. Once you click it, where it says enter URL, just paste (CTRL + V) the file location and you will see '['IMG']' YOUR FILE LOCATION THAT YOU PASTED '['/IMG'']'. You are now set to hit your 'Reply to Thread' button for us to enjoy the picture of your coin (make sure it is a small sized file).

    Hello,

Much has been written about the PCGS MS69 1972-S Silver Eisenhower Dollar recently graded by PCGS. As I am the original owner & the person who "MADE" it in a Bulk submission of 252 Silver Ike Dollars to PCGS I will offer my humble opinion. For those of you who don't already know I have sold the coin to Mitch Spivack aka "WONDERCOIN" Mitch was a PLEASURE to deal with and made me BY FAR the best and highest offer on this coin. For that I would like to THANK him & I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND him to anyone wanting to buy or sell high end coins.

Now as for the coin,,, it is BY FAR the FINEST Silver IKE Dollar I have ever seen!!!! It has BLAZING original surfaces & is virtually defect free. I have sent approximately 1500 Silver IKE'S to PCGS for grading in the last 14 months & this coin is by far SUPERIOR to any of the other coins I have handled. Mitch has this coin on eBay,,, I hand delivered it today. If anyone is looking for the FINEST Silver IKE Dollar graded by PCGS,,,, in my opinion,,,,, this coin is it!!!!

Now it is with great sadness I must go & remove it from my #16 PCGS Eisenhower Dollar Registry Set as it is no longer my coin. CONGRATULATIONS to WONDERCOIN & to whoever owns it next. It is a fine coin & the new owner will be pleased with it.

Thanks for all the interest & the post on this subject.

    GrandAm

P.S. I have many nice PCGS MS68's in 1972-S, 73-S & 74-S for anyone wanting a nice coin for a little less money.

Gary: Thank you so much for a smooth deal and the courtesy of flying across the country to hand-deliver the coin to me today image As you saw first hand, I am only too happy to purchase NEAT "modern" rarities and outbid nearly anyone for them, whether it be another dealer or the top collectors of the particular series.

The market for PCGS TRUE MODERN RARITIES is vibrant and definately "two sided". The ability to market your MODERN RARITY was never in doubt as you saw first hand. The profit for you, the collector, was ENORMOUS - I seriously doubt you could have made the net profit you made on the one Ike Dollar if you had bought $50,000 - $100,000 worth of classic coins and held them for a year!! Yet, your profit was made on a $14 MODERN COIN INVESTMENT (including grading fee)! Of course, it is an unusual event to turn $14 into the incredble profit you made - but, it happens with moderns and it is only fair to recognize this fact along with the fact which constantly gets stated on these boards that collectors can and do lose money buying moderns.

Thanks again for a great deal! Wondercoin

Congratulations again Grandam on making this coin. Congratulations to Mitch on it's purchase. Best of luck in selling it ultimately to the right collector. As you know I was once a serious collector of highest grade IKEs, and this would have been a real prize. I remember Dennis D and I were discussing in a thread a year or so ago the probably value of a true 69. Seems like we were easily talking $5,000 to $10,000. Don't know what you paid Mitch, but it truly is a coin of superb value and rarity as well as striking beauty. I just wish more national dealers would start to deal in this type of modern rarity.

Now as for making thousands on a $14 investment, let's just remember that Grandam only had to submit 252 pieces and 1,500 before to get one diamond.image No, these are rare finds, and despite what some think there will never be hundreds made!

    Cheers

    Greg,

Youa re correct about the fact that there will not be hundreds of these, but there will be more.

How many, is anyone's guess. My guess is no more than 10-15 in the next 10 years, UNLESS, the serivce loosenes up! This is very possible!

Let's hope not, but it COULD happen!

Yes, and in 10-15 years those $50,000-100,000 in classics will still be worth at least that much if not multiples of that, while the MS69 Ike could easily be worth a small fraction of today's price. What goes up exponentially, comes down the same way. I'd be willing to bet that the Ike in 10 years will be worth less than it is today while
a standard bearer for classic coins, a "common" date bust quarter in PCGS MS 65, will be worth more.

Large percentages of the owners of the $100,000 classics today will be sellers
in the next ten to fifteen years. There are not large numbers of younger collectors
who will both desire and be able to afford these coins in the interveneing time. So
who will buy all these high priced coins coming on the market? My guess is that
there will be someone there to maintain the price. That it will be those younger
people who are coming into the hobby now via the states issues and the moderns.

Does it really seem plausible hat if this is correct that most ALL of these new collectors
would not only tire of the moderns but divest themselves of so many that even the
prices of the rarer coins plummet. It seems that the future of the classics is very much
tied to the future of the moderns and is to a large degree dependent on them.
