Is it just me or is there twice the amount of toned coins out there for sale as there was a couple of years ago. Keyword "toned" on E-Bay and I bet half of the coins come up!----------------BigE

Yes, and I love it....give me more....did you see the toned buffalo type 1 thread on other page??

But back to earth....I think PCGS and NGC should invest some serious R and D into AT if they have not already as this toning explosion needs to be kept in check with only NT market acceptable. Maybe even an event promote and illustrate frauds at shows, again if not already, maybe they are doing??

Naturally toned coins are like organically grown food, twice as much is sold as is produced.

to me, "Toned" can mean a lot of things. It can get people to view the auction, but a lot of those coins are unattractively toned. Very mis-used and very deceitful. Same thing goes for the term "Rainbow". Advanced toning afficianado's wouldnt buy 80% of that stuff. Be very picky when it comes to toning.

no statistics to back me up, but i can defintiely tell you this on gut-feel. there are FAR FAR FAR more toned-coins on the market today then there were 25 years ago. i have no question whatsoever that they are being made-to-order

absurd to naively think that all the toned coins floating around the market today had been hidden away & just coincidentally started appearing on the mkt. just as it heated up.

well, the definition of "toned" varies quite a bit. now that toning is in favor everyone uses the word for every coin that's not white. most auctions i check with "toned" in the header would be better described as "tarnished".
