Did you ever open a strangers auction ...........

Did you ever open a strangers auction on ebay and have your work stare back at you from the page?
I just opened an auction for a 68 proof set and there was my picture. The guy had stolen my picture!
This is getting to be to much.
I have seem post here about people highjacking rare item pictures to put in their (not so rare items or just to scam someone for a quick payment) auctions.
But to steal my 1968 Proof set picture PLEASE!

Heres whatya gotta do.........almost any photo editing software will allow it too.........in large open letters(so as to not obscure the coins), put your name across in a diagonal line...............should prevent that...........or if they link directly to the pic(where ever you have it posted from) change the picture to something really off the wall.

  • Good advice GCC,

I host all my pictures from my little web site so that I can change them if I need to. You can't change the iPix pictures, but you can change the ones that you link directly through your auction page's HTML.

Yep, and mine was also garden variety low value coins.

I've had that happen before. I politely emailed the seller and told him that he was using my picture. I also told him that I did not mind, but suggested he ask for permission if he wanted to borrow any more pictures from other sellers as others may not be as understanding.
He emailed me back and was very apologetic. I really think he was sincere. He was new to selling on Ebay and I don't think he realized that it could be a problem.

My, Duncan, that certainly seemed to hit a nerve with you.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

The problem is, picture thieves have no idea how much work it is to image coins. Or maybe they do, and are just lazy. I am waiting for the day when someone decides to link directly to one of my images. I have all sorts of nice pictures I can replace the coin with! image
