Here is one of the auctions where all bids were cancelled, for an 1872 PCGS MS65RB Indian cent. According to the reededge, they cancelled the auction because the coin was no longer available. Funny, because I now see them selling the same coin on ebay:
here at $3250 opening bid.

AUCTION PURCHASERS PLEASE ALSO NOTE: Auction merchandise is NOT returnable. The exception would be in the rare case of an inaccurate representation. An auction is a contract to purchase and it is NOT an approval service.
His practices are so sleazy I wish there was a way to block auction sellers I would never buy from, I dont care what he is selling!

I've not decided and will give them some more time before deciding one way or the other. I certainly won't leave positive. Their auction does state that all sales are final and now that I've seen the coin when I go back and look at their images, some of the larger patches of verdigris is visible in the images. Still, I think that is the type of thing that should have been mentioned. What would you do?

Since they mention that there is no return privilege and posted images, I probably wouldn't leave negative feedback. But, it irks me that they don't have the courtesy to reply to your emails. Not to mention, the cancelled auctions, for apparently bogus reasons and the persistent hype of their items.
Yes, I know. And if I bought it just knowing the date and grade, that would be one thing. But, the seller also made certain representations about the coin. For example, the auction did say the coin was "problem-free". When it arrived, I saw it had about 2 dozen small patches of verdigris.

Neg 'em and neg 'em good!!!!!
PS - never, ever ever buy sight unseen from a seller that doesn't offer a return [a scan is NOT sight seen]. Oh, and isn't it against ANA guidelines to sell a coin without a return privilege?
There are plenty of times I am willing to take a risk on smaller value, commodity items sight unseen. Most of the time when people represent them as problem-free they are. Sure, they sometimes don't have quite the eye appeal or are unattractively toned or something and that is why they are being sold that way. This risk is taken into account and priced into the equation by both parties. That is a risk I have no problem with on certain items. However, the economics get skewed when items are represented as problem-free and they're not.
How they reedededge handles my complaint about their description will likely ultimately determine the feedback I give. People screw up. When they agree to a reasonable resolution, then I forgive. I appreciate the same courtesies in return.

PS: Yes, the ANA requires a return privilege but there are exceptions, including one for auctions. I'm sure the authors of the ANA regulations did not have eBay auctions in mind when they wrote the exception. So, how it would be interpreted in an administrative hearing is anybody's guess. This deal is way too small to be worth the trouble to find out. I intend to see what can be done with a couple e-mails and then move on to the next deal (with someone else obviously).
I, for one, would regard a retaliatory neg on your feedback a badge of honor if it came from reedededge.

A good philosophy!
My advice was predicated on them continuing to ignore your requests for return of a misdescribed coin. And my warning to avoid no return, sight unseen coins was a generality to which there are always exceptions for knowledgable collectors. But even knowledgable collectors put themselves at risk to just this type of situation.....
I tried to get a refund under their then policy of no returns except for "gross misrepresentation", or something like that. No go for awhile but after several emails......the last of which stressed the definition of the word "prestine" (i said unless the coin left the mint with flyspecks already on it....it shouldn't have been called "pristine")......i finally got around a 80% refund!
They weren't happy i guess.......because the "My Heritage" account was closed and i can't access it! (it was nice to have the coins listed and have a quick valuation for most of them). After several emails to try to get it reopened......they wanted me to print something out and sign it and send it in as a sort of disclaimer. As i don't have a printer for this laptop.....i didn't do it so i'm still on the outs at Heritage.
Funny, after i returned the coin....they relisted it and THIS TIME mentioned the flyspecs.....what they should have done in the first place!
Go figure...

<< <i>I won one of their cents during their no-reserve campaign. It had about a half dozen spots of verdigris that they neglected to mention in the auction. They're also apparently refusing to take a return (they ignored two polite e-mails). I guess I will have to send it to PCGS for grade review.

Once again resides with Legend, the original purchaser "raw" at live Eliasberg auction. Laura and i "love" the same lady!
DOH.....DOH.....DOH.....DOH.....DOH.....DOH
I will say that I have purchased a couple nice pieces from them in the past from Ebay without incedent, but I do not think it's a good practice to stop no reserve auctions early, and if this is their new policy, I would not bid in any of their future Ebay auctions.
