Merc Attack: July '03 Stokely Sale will kill me!

marcmoishmarcmoish Posts: 6,292 ✭✭✭✭✭
Just received the latest Heritage May Signature catalog, noted they will be selling "that" Stokely collection, yikes yes that PCGS upper tier, numero uno, in July of this year.......I don't think I will be able to live thru that mentally, pyscologically or financially.
so I've jotted a few ideas and will need to pursue one of them for obvious reasons.image

1. Temporarily move to Micronesia for the summer so I never get to see the catalog.
2. Quickly get a night job, a 2nd job daily during lunch hour, a job on Sundays and holidays with double pay.
3. Immeadiately begin any 10 step program!
4. Come to terms with the fact that some things may just not happen in this life, and like most of us, to enjoy, discuss, flame image ,add and upgrade as financially possible, to collect what we really love, and to the best of our abilities.

JMH thoughts!

This is the Set that I have watched forever. I really thought the Stokely Set had a chance at becoming the Finest Ever set sometime in the future. From what I understand he is moving to another area of numismatics so a few folks should watch out if what he decides to collect is put into the registries. Really sorry to see this set broken up. Atleast two other sets still have a chance to rival the Joshua II set in the future I believe.

This will be very interesting to watch when the Auction arrives and I wish him the best with the auction results. Probably will be a Awe Struck bystander when it comes to bidding. image

  • I think I will buy an extra ticket for the lottery. I will need some extra cash for that auction.

That is such an awesome set! Too bad I'll probably have to sit on the sidelines, because the dates I need will sell for stratospheric prices. At least we should all be able to see pictures of the coins and dream.........

I am slow today, so please forgive me...but are you all talking about the Stokely Merc collection? I got my Heritage May 1 Auction catalog today and I noted that the Stokely proof clad dime collection was for sale, but I didn't see where his Mercs are for sale.

Last week I went to the bank and checked over my Merc collection. I have 3 discards from the Stokely collection and I must say that they are among the three most beautiful coins I have. He has a TREMENDOUS eye for coins. Indeed, even though I do not collect proof clad dimes, I am planning on bidding on some of those coins simply because of the pedigree and the fact that I appreciate his ability to locate stunning coins.

But, back to the topic: Is the Stokely Merc collection being put up for sale? If so, I think Micronesia will be a tad crowded this summer....

Yes, Mark, it is the Merc collection and it is in July of this year.

Now if we could get Joshua to sell his set I could be number 1 again for a while anyway.

Never mind those clad proof Roosevelt's. They are not worth bidding on, so nobody bid! image

    Tim,

Sorry, not in the market for anything else that eats!

I too may have to wish and watch, but I'm going to try to get one coin from that collection for my set.
Doesn't matter which one as long as I can figure out how to afford it and it fills a hole in my set.

Marc, Don't you wish they would dole these out over the course of a year or two? I had intended to bid on your 1916-P MS66FB on Ebay, and forgot. Both our losses!
