David Hall is one of the principals and founders of PCGS. He's a good guy and so is DHRC.
I have purchase many times before and was very happy.
If you purchase 4 or 5 coins, I forget how many, your shipping is only $8 and you get them in a PCGS
    box.

    What are you buying?
  • David Hall generally has very nice coins. They can be priced on the high side depending on the coin.
I find that their ebay auctions can result in purchases at more attractive prices, but if moderns are not your interest, the coins on ebay are generally those that have been in inventory for a good while. David Hall is not afraid to step up to the plate and spend some strong money to carry top notch coins in his inventory. If you don't like the coin when you receive it they will allow for returns.

    Baron -

DHRC has a very solid reputation.

FYI, DHRC, PCGS and B&M are all Collectors Universe companies, so you came to the right place to learn about them! (Ironically, your icon reminds me of Bowers and Merena's gryphon.)

  • The coin in question is a 1903 pcgs V nickel. I was unsuccessful in navigating their website to purchase thecoin so I will do it the old fashioned way with a phone call.

Thanks for all the responces, and anyone who wishes to offer an opinion on the piece, I will appreciate this also.

    thank you

The people there, including Van Simmons and Meg Ryan, are A+++. They give good prompt service, and are very pleasant to deal with.

  • 4 coins gets you a free blue slab box, or I paid 5 dollars additional for one when I bought just one coin

Always happy with my purchases from one of the founders of PCGS! Look above at the quick links and you will see DHRC (at the top of the CU page).

  • I have purchased Buffalo Nickels from DHRC many times. You will probably pay a little more compared to other places, but their coins are superior. Just got a 21P MS65 that is just unbelievable!!!imageimage

  • I won a DHRC auction on EBay and had an issue with the coin delivered. A no hassle return, a beautiful coin returned and at express service. The price was HALF of the amount listed on the price guide and I would not hesitate to deal with DHRC.

DHRC always has been a positive experience in my dealings with them ...
  • I recently bought a MS68 Ike that had a big smudge right in the center of the coin, the problem appeared to be on or in the slab, not the coin. I sent it back and had no problems....etc. However I am now out $18.00+ in shipping fees for a coin which I feel should have been reslabed before being sold.

    Hey, Brian

How many Meg Ryan's do you think there are in the U.S.A.? image

But you never know - I've only talked to the one at DHRC on the phone - and I've learned never to underestimate David Hall! image

I feel that from the images of his coins on ebay, some of the coins are overgraded. Also there's been rumors that insider grading happens with him. Of course those are just rumors. Of course it would explain how he seems to get all the top graded pops first.............

DHRC usually has very nice coins. When the coins aren't nice they have an easy no questions asked return policy. Prices can be ugly at times...or maybe I'm just cheap.

    Gerry,

I thought Van's assistant's name was more like Megan O'Reilly or something. Whatever her name is...if you get their "catalog" in the mail they usually have pictures of the entire staff scattered throughout.

regarding the 1903 in question, i would pass unless the digi-pic is deceiving (i didn't even look at the price). the reverse is average struck - in fact the entire coin is. be discriminating & hold out for a well-struck 1903, which does exist, & you can cherry pick 1 from a dealer who's clueless & doesn't realize a well-struck coin is (should be) worth a substantial premium

    just my 5c worth

I hate to spoil the party, but I purchased a coin from DHRC, it was over-hyped (i.e. did not match the description) and I had a tough time getting a refund.

  • I have bought and sold coins to David Hall for over 15 years, He has always handled some of the finest high quality coins availible.I have never had a problem with misrepresention on any coin. If a coin came that I didnt like there has never been any problem with returning it. Collectibles are in the eye of the beholder and I have always felt I am one of the hardest to please.
Even in the bottom of the coin market during the early 90's he was always fair on his buy prices when most of the other dealers I had been dealing with wouldnt quote me a price due to market conditions.

    Littlewicher,

Exactly how many coins have you purchased from David Hall?

  • A most warm welcome to the forum!

DHRC is great. All my dealings with them have been superb.

The $6.50 shipping I've paid in the past is a bargain, given that they sent my coins registered insured.
