1969 Topps Baseball Perranoski

69'ers

I just had a bunch of 1969's graded and one of the cards is a PSA 8 Perranoski "emblem invisible".....according to the population report, this is the second one graded an 8....If you ask me, I think the population report is off and many of these "invisible emblem" cards have been graded, but listed in the population report under "emblem visible"

Can anyone confirm this? or am I really holding the rarer version.

FYI......the group of 1969's just graded included a #21 Santiago PSA 9....."drum roll" ......PSA 9 oc that is ...............with the slight tilt to the card, I knew the lower left corner was close for an 8, but a 9 oc......looks like its 4 sharp corners, with a cloud of dust....bummed!

Thanks,
Mark

    Hi Mark,

It looks like they have the pop's reversed (like all the white letters). The "emblem invisible" version is much more common. I have one and you have one so that pretty much eliminates the "emblem visible" opportunity since the pop is 1.

Too bad on the Santiago. A 9NQ would have been a big money card.
  • Treetop,

Agree with Gemint. The Perranoski "emblem invisible" is more common compared to "emblem visible". In addition, there are examples that simply state "Ron Perranoski" with no description of the emblem whatsoever which could be "emblem visible" or "emblem invisible" specimens. This requires a little more explanation though. The "emblem invisible" exists in 2 variations that PSA does not subcategorize. One "emblem invisible" variation measures 6mm across the brush out, while the other "emblem invisible" variation measures 7mm across the same brush out. In total, there are 3 variations to the 1969 #77 Ron Perranoski: emblem visible, emblem invisible (6 mm) and emblem invisible (7 mm). Again, PSA only recognizes 2 variations, emblem visible or invisible!

Similarly, the other emblem variation in the first series, Paul Popovich, exists in 3 variations. One has a "C" visible on the helmet through a light dark brush out attempt. The second variation completely covers the "C" with a jagged edge brush out alteration to the right of the emblem. Finally, the third variation also has the "C" covered, but by a dark brush out that has a smooth edge to the right of where the emblem was located. I hope that this is not too confusing.

    Thanks for the analyst guys.

Gemint, yes would have been nice if the Santiago was a straight 9. Well be looking at that one closely once I have it back from PSA

    Thanks again,
