Amazing Color on This Washington

Well it is amazing color, MS 65 RB, finest slabbed by PCGS.

Yeah, yeah, I know, I've posted this one before. But I think it deserves it.

  • Its a Washington Small Eagle Cent struck in 1791.

    I think 1500 or so were struck all those years ago, and I would guess no more than a small handful have survived with as much red on them as this one. Maybe a very small handful.

    This coin was less than $5K, which is not a small amount of money, but it is a smaller amount of money than a high grade 1950s Washington Quarter I saw offered in a newspaper yesterday.

    I would say thats just slightly out-of-wack.

    Tells us something about the history of the coin! Under what authority were they struck? Where did they circulate? Most of us know very little about pre-Federal coinage.
