That's a really cool looking reverse. But there's something weird going on here. Generally 49P's don't have a weak strike, as it's only the second year of mintage. Take a really close look at the cheek, the hair, and the tressle on the bell and see if you can detect any kind of wear - I'm wondering if this might not be an AU58. It looks like this coin may have resided in an oldtime holder as opposed to a mint set. Those are unusual colors for a 49 - these usually tend to be grey/speckled. If you think it passes the muster, then it would definitely be worth slabbing!

It appears to have some wear on the obverse, it could be the toning and the picture that is causing it to look this way.....

  • Upon further review...............There appears to be luster on the high spots where you can see through the toning. The toning does really make it hard to see things...........Ken

Ken - compare the areas that have luster against a coin which you know is uncirculated. If the areas you're referring to look too shiny, it might be wear due to collector handling over the years. It's kinda hard to tell not being able to see it in person.
