Fla. teen arrested for eBay fraud!!!

image today's News Herald article{local paper} Oldsmar,Fla.-- 19 year old arrested after he took money for gold coins he offered on eBay and never delivered them. It's the second time he's been accused of this crime. Pinellas County sheriff's detectives on Wednesday charged Jason R. Denonville with scheming to defraud and 6 counts of grand theft in the scam.
Denonville is charged with promising to deliver 1-ounce gold coins to at least 6 victims. He accepted more than $3600, gave buyers false tracking numbers and never sent anything.
This is twice and eBay fraud detection software seems to be working fairly well!!!Crap, if it weren't for several members here that closely tracks coin auctions, they wouldn't be aware of anything!

Thank you to the members who bring up this type of crap, or other fraudulent schemes!

  • GOOD! Hope he goes to prison for a long time since this is a repeat offense.
Friends are Gods way of apologizing for your relatives.

People like this do not go to prison. They cop a plea and do probation. The courts do not view it as a serious crime and prisons are overcrowded. Rest assured as young Jason has started early bilking the public, such a fast start usually results in bigger crime later so he will end up in jail for a long time for something else more serious. Maybe the couts should be sued for letting a criminal off to hurt again?

I just read about a local girl (fairly local anyway) who was arrested on similar charges, just not coins.

I have to agree with you on that one Max. He will probably be right out on bail and will never serve any real time - maybe be told to do some community service or something! Our courts need to wake up and realize just how serious crimes like this can be.

I got ripped for 2 Krugerands a few months back along with 85 other people for a total over $100,000 One guy lost over $9000.

The detective asked that the eBay customers to quit threatening the guy and let them handle it, because he sent out some refunds to buy some time.

By the time they got a warrant, he already took his only option; take the money and go back to Brazil. I hope he tries to come back.

image The thing that wacks me is the fact "this is the second time he has done this fraud!" I don't spend a great deal of time on eBay searching for these problems, I only search for coins I'm interested in at a given time for my collections. There are many members who do spend some time looking, especially key dates, and have reported certain scams and other fraudulent behavior!
WHEN IS eBAY GOING TO STOP THIS CRAP AND THE OTHER COPIES AND FAKES FROM APPEARING ON THESE SITES!
I'M SICK AND TIRED OF NONE ACTION FROM THEM AND NON-ENFORCEMENT OF POLICY[EXCEPT THE ONES THAT MAKE THEM MONEY] AND THEIR CAVEAT EMPTOR STANDING!

  • What is it with the kids in Florida! I had to knock on the door of a 12 year old to collect a 2001 $100 Platinum, didnt know he was 12 until I got there, still cant believe he had the coin! Right after 911, talk about CHEAP! I did the Disney thing and had the best vacation ever! I bet this kid wont forget about me showing up at his door with the sherriff at 3:30 in the morning, especially coming from California!

imageMakes you want to dump eBay and go to Amazon where you have protection up-front on purchases and selling, not the back side of extra charges from Pay-Pal!

  • I was ripped off by someone on ebay for some gold bullion. I'm just glad it was only a small bar and didn't set me back too much. By the time I had given up after many emails to him and ebay fraud I tried to neg him, it was too late as he was already suspended.

  • << <i>f he goes on to more serious bilking schemes, he will eventually pay a much bigger price down the road. >>

But only after bilking a lot more people - probably elderly widows whose food and medicine money will buy him luxurious hotel rooms. image One of the reasons I didn't do criminal law.

Never. I've notified them a half dozen times of fraudulent coin sales, with proof of the fraud and a reminder of their own policies about selling replicas, etc., and most of the time I don't even get the "we're looking into it" brushoff message.image

wallstreetman - did you actually do that ???????

I think some of the reason for the problems seen from kids in FL is their role model parents -

Where is Boca Raton and why do so many scamsters live there?
  • Sure did! He lived in Brandon, right next to Tampa. When I looked at the computer in the sherriffs car, it showed a different first name, that is when I had an idea it was a kid. I got a round trip for $150, a room at the Wyndym Walt Disney for $50 and an SUV for $15 a day! I think I just wanted to take advantage of the prices regardless!

Don't forget Orange county, CA. Home of dozens of scammers in cities like Irvine, Newport Beach, Santa Ana and Costa Mesa. And no, I am not suggesting PCGS is among them as I am sure some paranoid idiot will suggest.

Last but not least is Las Vegas, boiler room capital of the West! If you get a get rich quick call or mail from any of these cities hang up or throw it out!

  • Great lesson WallStreetMan. May save the kid's life someday. You rip the wrong people and you wind up dead. Not like the movies in hollywood where people come out ok, but for real dead!image
