Oh my goodness! I have ordered from them about a month ago and until now I do not have the coins. Maybe they are trying to find the bad ones for me? Hope not. Maybe I should call them tomorrow and would cancel it.
May I know about the rumor? I am scared with my money and would like to cancel through my credit card. If you can't tell it here in the message board, could you email me? thanks.

At the ANA in Charlotte, I found some flyers that were left on a lunch table. The flyer was made by Larry Briggs' wife. It stated that she and Larry were totally ripped off by Sunshine Rarities. Specifically, Jimmy's checks were bouncing all over the place and when Larry called to resolve the matter, Jimmy told him to F*-off. That's what the flyer said. I think I saved a copy of it and maybe I should post it. I heard from others that Sunshine Rarities was in bad shape due to Jimmy's very expensive "recreational" habits. Remember, this is the guy I saw at the FUN show that had a wad of toilet paper shoved up his nose. I reported that back in January. It's my understanding that he bounced a check on Alan Hager. How's that for comedy?!?!
I remember in another thread from several months back that someone here said that "Jimmy" was previously in prison for some type of fraud scheme regarding coins or investments or something. I wouldn't touch Sunshine Rarities with a 10 ft. pole.
I saw their ad in Coinage Magazine and thought that they are big and reliable business.
I too saw their ad in Coinage magazine and thought from the sheer volume of NTC, ACG, and other scum grading service slabs that they are a big and slimy bucket of dung. The other posts on this thread confirm my suspicion.
I know I had read on RCC that the head of Sunshine Rarities was a partner in NTC. Perhaps the information was erroneous.

I have much more I could post, but you have to begin to wonder why bother. NTC has a very bad reputation, and most people know it. NTC and Island Rarities are one and the same, and they sold their own graded coins on eBay ala Alan Hager and ACG. Kevin McNerney and James Dempsey have been observed working together. So, what part of my statement was "patently false"?
K6AZ, I am always amused when someone tries to help someone see they made or are making a big mistake. Instead of cooperating and shutting up they get defensive. Sort of like trying to save a drowning person. Unless you whack them over the head to stun them they may drown you!
Newbies and those in denial need only to do a search on this site for threads or NTC or ACG. Or do a google search. If they are still not convinced they are a fool and you know what happens to a fool's money!
I could write a ton on how the ANA and PNG is failing the hobby and one day will wake up to find themselves with alot less collectors / dealers and wonder how it happened "overnight".
Don't be so down about the ANA and PNG Max, the tide is turning. Keep an eye out on the ANA elections this summer.
What you say has a lot of merit. I am constantly amazed by the amount of collectors who don't remember the golden rule: You don't get something for nothing and there is no Santa Claus in numismatics. The best example of this is the 1884-S Morgan Dollar. This coin sheets around $3500 in MS60. Do a search on eBay for the 84-S and look at how many ACG and NTC "MS60"s pop up, usually starting at under $1000. A collector with any common sense at all ought to know you are not going to get a coin that wholesales for $3500 for under $1000, but I keep seeing people buy this stuff and just have to shake my head.
Fortunately, I learned the "easy" way that they don't know what they are doing. When they first opened, I ordered three 1878 7TF's from them that were slabbed by NTC. When I got them I immediately recognized that they were 8TF's -- all three of them -- and yes they said 7TF on the NTC holders. Since the coins were overgraded, but the coins were more valuable, I think I broke even!
Not to beat a dead horse, but stay away from this outfit.
And dont get on thier phone list? I bought a PCGS-63 14-d lincoln from them about 3 years ago, which actually was quite nice. Then they kept calling and calling trying to cramp down a bunch of other unwanted junk. About a month later, I was looking for a 1915-s Buffalo. They told me that they had a nice one PCGS-64 with a lot of luster and sharp strike, the guy there I believe was john something or nother?
He said he is looking at the coin and it is nice? So the price was fair and I needed it so I said send it on?
Oh it was nice and lusterous, but was a 1913-s Ty I buffalo incorrectly encapuslated in a 1915-s PCGS holder. I promptly called them on it and returned it. Not dealt with them since, but they contiuned to call for months, I finally had to keep hanging up the phone.
Its funny because a couple years went by since then and hadnt herd from them, thank goodness until the phone rings about two months ago and its them again wanting to know if I wanted this and that and they had some good deals on some NTC stuff.

there are a number of rumors going around about big jimmy and they're all very scary.

I have no first hand knowledge of this firm, but after a month, I think I'd be happy to get anything, even "bad ones". Who recommended them to you?
