  • Nice additions! A few more and you will be in the top 5 of the C/N/S type set!!!

I like your 1828 Half Cent and your 1818 Large Cent. They look great for Brown coins! It looks like there is some original mint color remaining!

I have sold 3 of my gold type coins. I was thinking of selling one or two more. I have a large cent at PCGS now. I could buy a few more and shoot for the top 5 in the C/N/S set. It is a tough move though. It seems like I'm giving up on the complete type set. I guess I can think of it as a tactical retreat.

I'm working on getting --back-- into the top 5.

Yes, I like those two brown coins that show some red as well! I also really like both my seated quarters--that 1891 looks much better than 62 to me (thanks EVP!) and the 1871 seated dollar with nice original skin.

I also have a couple coins I'm not thrilled with and may try to replace one day... one of the bust halves, some of the easier AU coins.

    Carl,
That's a lot of nice proofs you have in that set. I've been tempted to register in the complete set as well. I have 9 of the gold coins. But I really don't need any bigger a challenge than I already have going.

Nice set Brian! That type set sure looks like a lot of fun, getting to learn a little about so
    many series.

One of these days I think I'll start it myself. Maybe when my Walkers get a bit more complete. image

Just sell those Bald Guys and you could make some serious progress on a nice type set!

  • I do like that 1891 quarter!!! Great look for the grade.

I think I bit off more than I can chew. I wanted to collect types in cameo proof where available. I also wanted gold in gem MS. I bought that 20 cent piece last year and that was it! That wiped out my coin budget for a year or more!

I decided to sell a few average gold coins. I got lucky and sold generic gold at the peak of the bullion market. I bought a raw large cent and sent it in.

I only need a 1866 with rays to complete my nickel type set. I saw a nice one at Legend's table recently. Cameo to boot. I didn't pull the trigger, but if I did I would be on the sidelines again for another year or more!!

These have both arrived. The 3CS is nicer than I expected. Theere is nice luster coming through on both sides, no visible wear on the star ridges, and I'm having a hard time judging if there is wear on the reverse....I feel it may be under graded.

I'd like to hear others opinions of this coin.

    Nice coin Brian.

Although you did a nice job on the image, it's hard to make a call on the grade. It appears there's a little rub on the radial lines extending from the shield to the points of the star. As well as a little rub on the shield itself. It's hard too, for me to see if there's good seperation between the shield lines. On the reverse, the leaves above the III might be showing some rub, or perhaps are a little weak. Otherwise, the coins appears to be nicely struck. All the stars on the reverse appear to be strong. I've seen MS67 pieces with 3 or more stars as flat as a pancake.

Without seeing it in person, I'd say you have a great coin for the grade and perhaps you have a shot at an upgrade.
