Can anyone identify this. My father-in-law passed away and this was in some old coins he had. I have no idea what this is.

I think that is a mint set token for a Denver set... or it is some other token/medal commemorating the Denver mint...

Looks similar to a souvenir medal I got in San Francisco at the old Mint, where they had a press set up, and you paid your money and could press the button and strike your own souvenir medal, which portrayed the building.

Of course, it's possible that came out of a set. But I don't recall any sets having medals with pictures of the Mint buildings?

Souvenir medal of some sort, is my guess.

These were used in the five coin souvenir mint sets most of which were sold
only at the mint between 1971 ( or '72) and 1998. There was another used
in some 1976 sets. These have also been distributed separately. Souvenir
set mintages varied from a few hundred to about 80,000. Most were in the
5,000 to 15,000 range.
