Question PCGS Submission how to send

I have been sending submission to PCGS by registered mail only one or two at a time but now I have 10 to submit and they don't let you use padded mailers for registered packages
Question? can I send them priorty mail so as to package them from damage Will PCGS accept them or do they have to go Registered? Is it better to send registered with Insurance or Priorty with Insurance?
any Ideas
Thank you in advance
Paul

  • You can ship priority mail, no problem.I use the priority mail vcr size boxes from the p.o., you can even print the label online and get free signature tracking for doing it online. But you still have to go to p.o. if you want it insured. If no insurance and under 16oz. you can just drop it in a mail box for delivery with no waiting in line. image

I have always used padded mailers for registered mail - the post office person puts
brown tape over every seam and away it goes.

What I usually do, is stick the coins in 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 inch flips and put them in a blue PCGS box. I use the same shipping box that the last order that was returned to me. Roll up the submission form and stick it in the cover of the box. Send priority mail/insured! Works great!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Are you talking about bubble padded or the paper padded. I think they allow the later, but not the former.

Anyway, Registered or regular priority with insurance makes no difference to pcgs. Two things...that should help make your decision. 1...registered is cheaper once you reach a value of around $900 or $1000. 2...registered is alot more secure than regular insured mail. Whoever was the last person to sign for the lost registered package gets fired! I have lost numerous insured packages, but never a registered one. Registered goes under lock and key from point to point, where regular insured just gets sent like all the other mail.

Shhh!!! I just get those video priority boxes from my po turn them inside out stick the coins in and paper wrap them. You are not supposed to use the priority boxes for non priority mail, but with paper wrapping usually they don't say anything.

I use Jiffy padded mailers -> air bubble mailers different?

I think you can send boxes registered as well.

I am not in total trust of post office so for coins and submission, I use registered.

Last year some guy from USPS was pulling out (stealing) insured and certified submissions to PCGS - they eventually got caught but I am not sure of where the coins ended up and whether insurance claims have all been settled.

If you are going to send for submssions, you have coins of a certain value don't you? I figured once the break point for insurance was better for registered onve $800 is met.

Personally, I am more comfortable with registered - kept under lock and key and signed for at each transfer.

Same as sinin1, I use registered mail, period. BTW, Office Depot sells a gummed paper tape that is post office acceptable for registered.

Just consider this. Last year when a bunch of shipments to PCGS started disappearing they were all Priority Insured. The Registered packages went through with no problems.

Registered vrs Priority Insured: Key to which to use for me is can I replace the COIN I'm sending. (ie) How scarce is the coin in the marketplace. If I can replace it easily and I can prove what I paid for the coin, I like priority because I can trace it thru the PO system better than registered, and registered is S L O W! No question thou, if I got a key coin I do NOT want to lose, registered is the way to go. Steveimage
  • Our PO won't take the time to wrap, tape, or do anything. They just roll their eyes and let you know that you have sinned.

If I have a small submission that has $200 or less value (and the coin(s) are not one of a kind, I send it priority mail super-taped and insured - I always make sure they don't sit in PO warehouses over the weekend.

In all other situations, I send the package registered and insured. PCGS will take either, but Registered is very much safest - and if the coin is hard to find or one of a kind, there is no other way.

I like to wrap my flips in bubble wrap strips, then place them in bubble brown envelopes, then put them in boxes to send to PCGS. They don't make contact with each other, are protected from possible wetness, rain or droppage, and I feel more comfortable (especially my proofs) that they won't abrade against the flips.
