update on new coin club

Hello,

As some of you may recall, I am starting a new coin club here in Duluth, MN. And some of you have asked for an update after our first meeting, so here is some details. The first meeting was held on March 25th. A total of eleven people showed up; with 6 more people calling me stating they are interested, but could not make the first meeting. So I am hopeful that we will continue to grow our membership significally during these initial meetings.

I did find a free place to meet, and we decided to meet once a month, on the 4th Tuesday of each month. During the first meeting, we set up our by-laws and constitution, decided on annual dues, and scheduled our future meetings, along with a "theme" for each meeting. The "theme" for our next meeting is show-n-tell as we are just getting to know each other. I am going to try and get our local coin dealer in town to come in and talk about grading coins for the "theme" for the following meeting. I was nominated and elected President, but we decided to wait on electing a Vice-President and a Secretary/Treasurer, as there are more people planning to attend this coming meeting.

A special thanks needs to go out to Patti Finner and Rollie Finner, an ANA Governor and an ANA Regional Coordinator, respectively, who drove up from central Wisconsin to help get the club off on the right foot.

Also, I would like to thank several board members here (Allen - coinshunter, Jeremy - airplanenut, Todd - CAMEO CC, and Michael - Coppernicus) as they all donated items for the new club. The donated items will be used for free giveaways at the meetings, drawings, and also raffles to raise a little money. All of them gave much more than I ever expected, and want to thank them publicly!!! We had 3 drawings for a free gift this first meeting, and I plan to space them out a little so they last.

I was able to have our one local coin dealer in town donate "grab bags" for each person at the meeting, and have several left over for new members who join this year. It was decided to make any person joining this first year a "charter member." Each grab bag contained a roll of wheat pennies, a 2003 P and D uncirculated Kennedy half, a circulated Buffalo, Merc, Barber Dime, IHC, Proof Washington Quarter, Proof Jefferson Nickel, and a few other tidbits.

I have set up a website for the new club, it is at http://www.geocities.com/twinportscoinclub/ in case you are interested. I have also set up a P.O. Box address for the post office, and have sent in the application for the club to join the ANA. I have a lot of more ideas to help continue to grow the club. And am looking forward to this first year of meetings. The reason I started this coin club, it that I have never been part of one, and have wanted to join a local club; but there wasn't one within 100 miles of where I live. So I just decided to do it myself. And am loving it already!

Thanks again for all the advice, information, and donations you have given me so far!

-William
