A "value" question for you FS Jefferson nickel guys - edited to correct misinformation abo

Before anyone gets excited, we DON'T have such a coin at the present time. But, what do you think would be a ballpark value for an MS67FS 1958 Jefferson nickel (current PCGS population of 0)?

A client has consigned one in another grading company's holder and we might try to cross it for him. Thanks, in advance, for any information that anyone can provide.

Edited to add : My sincere apologies - I have just learned from my client that the coin is a 1958-D and not a 1958 P. I realize that makes a big difference. Thanks for the help and sorry about the very disappointing news.

  • Mark,
considering that it is a pop zero in 66fs also if it crosses at the same
grade I would imagine it would bring great interest at auction
    Tim,
LOOKING FOR 1931-s merc that is nice for the grade and fb
  • Mark:

With only 6 coins in MS65FS and none higher, I think a MS67FS would be worth in excess of $4000.

    Thank you Frank.
  • I agree with Frank, but feel that figure is on the low end of the scale.

I would pay holder fee + shipping + 0.05 for the coin. Suppose I will not get it, but no loss. But I will pay the same for lower grades.

Since the other company holder is likely not NGC (who never graded one that high either), I suspect the odds are MS66FS is the true "goal" grade and that would be a nice coin as well. I would personally be surprised if the coin graded above MS65FS. Good luck though. image Wondercoin.

It is in an NGC holder, apparently, very recently certified. The "goal" grade is, of course, MS67FS.

    Mark,

Please let us know if it crosses.

  • Well, if it is in an NGC holder we know the steps are all there because they are tougher in that regard then PCGS. So it must be one nice coin, if it doesn't cross that doesn't mean it isn't a 67.

Mark: I hope you didn't take my comment the wrong way. My simple point is that I know the PCGS MS Jefferson nickel market as well as anyone in the country, dealer or collector, and an MS67FS 1958(p) Jefferson Nickel in either PCGS or NGC is simply a coin that does not exist. The same way Stu would tell you a 1926(s) Lincoln Cent in PCGS-MS67RD is simply a coin that does not exist. The same way you would tell me a number of classic coins in MS67 or MS68 do not exist, if I had posed the same question on the boards image Wondercoin
