What was the cause of the current backlog?

While I believe that in most cases PCGS is worth the wait, I was wondering what the root cause of the current delays was/is?

We have a backlog because submissions levels have skyrocketed in the past 6 months. We need to add graders, but we've also lost some graders because the market is hot. PCGS graders make beaucoup bucks, but some like the action in the market place.

    Mike Sargent left
    Rick Montgomery left
    Gordon Wrubel came back
    Thad Olsen came back

another former PCGS grader (and a great one) will be rejoining us next week.

Business is booming and we are still looking to add graders. We are being picky. We don't think you want apprentices to grade your coins.

It's also a "Catch 22.' When the back log does start to come down, we'll probably get even more submissions, putting even more processing pressure on us. We're in a Bull market for coins and PCGS submissions always go up in good coin markets. We'll deal with it, but there is no instantaneous fix.
