1854 Seated Liberty Quart. -- No Arrows @ date?

Well this is kinda of unusual, I bought a 1854 Seated Liberty Quarter off a bid board 'cause I needed one for a Dansco Type set. It was cheap and in decent shape VF+ so why not. Now I go and check the Redbook and price guides, this coin SHOULD have arrows @ the date.

But my coin has no arrows. What gives? Could someone have removed the arrows on purpose? I checked and it doesn't look like thats what happened.

Anyone know why my coin doesn't have arrows?

I'd like to see a picture. Probably just a contemporary counterfeit or an altered coin, of course. Reminds me of an 1853 arrows and NO RAYS half I had twenty years ago. The rays had been removed, but the coolest thing was that the coin had ANACS authenticy papers noting that it had no rays!

Either it has had the arrows removed or is a counterfeit.
Post a good picture if you can.
I collect the Seated Quarters and have about 600 in my collection.

Wow, that's pretty cool if it is a counterfeit. I checked the coin under a stereo microscope and I can't find any evidence of scratches on the coins surface to indicate that the arrows were removed. There are some scratches do to wear and there is a good amount of grime in all the right places. It also has a die crack running thru the QUA or Quar. on the reverse.

A pic wouldn't help it looks like a normal VF Seated Liberty Quarter, unfortunately I don't have a great camera or set up to show the surface of the coin.

Lathmach - do these have die cracks in that area -- does that help with diagnostics?
