Yes, I agree. I just posted about my Frankie sticker shock after visiting the R&I website yesterday. Collecting rare date gold is heckuva lot less expensive!
That's whacked. Sit back, sip a cup of coffee, and slowly think of all the other things you'd rather have in life for $32,000.00 than a condition-rarity Franky.
I'll bet if the coin was in a PCGS holder, Rick would actually find a buyer for the coin. It would actually be really cool if someone does purchase the coin for a boatload of $$$$; often there is a trickle down effect after such a purchase.
Franklins seem to be softening up a little. It would be good to see a fire lit up under the series. I have a number of tough MS66FBL dates that I would like to see get considerably more expensive rather than less.
this doesnt say anything to the unsearched bookoods of bu rolls and spicy collections adding into the millions of coins that have not been looked over yet. uh-oh, 3 more get made ! NOW they're all worth 2500 each. 5 years from now............"uh-oh" 20 more have been made, they're all worth $750 now/then....... etc,etc,et-al,ie
That price, from that dealer, doesnt suprise me at all. I'll agree statistically rare but as an investment, I'd rather put the money in a TRIED and TRUE rarity.
Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
I agree; that's "stoopid" money, but doops, I think if anyone knows this series, it's RT. Yeah, I know about ALL those collections you're talking about; a similar argument popped up when that 66FBL '53-S sold for astronomical money.
Maybe it's just a poor image, but where in the heck are the bell lines? For that asking price there should be a slide show attached.
i think Rick T is hoping that some guy opens that auction, sees the price and has a grabber, falls face first on the keyboard and accidentally makes the opening bid. i guess this plan is also contingent on the guy actually surviving the grabber too. it's a long shot of course.
R&I keeps sending me their price sheet for their coins. I'm sure they are nice, but the prices are very high. This is a wonderful looking coin but way out of my price range. I bought a nice looking one in MS65 NGC for $50. It doesn't have FBL but it is good enough for my Franklin collection.
You know I love my Frankie's but for $32,000 I be buying these:
The longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice is it possible for an empire to rise without His aid? Benjamin Franklin

David will call all of us and tell us how jealous he is while cruising the Gulf in his $32,000 dingy
