Considering that someone posted his collection (any thoughts?) is coming up for sale. What was his focus?
I heard he has a BU BAG of 1860-O Seated Dollars........yes bag, 1000 coins.
Collecting since 1976.

He probably had a BU bag of those, back in the 60's, but I do not know if he still has them. I kinda doubt it. I believe that his most valuable coin, and I believe that he still owns it, is the original Confederate half dollar.

At one time he owned the only graded 1844-0 pr 64 gold ten dollar liberty. I am not sure if it sold in 1999 at auction or not.image

  • Where was this mentioned that he is auctioning his collection? I couldn't find the post with the search thingy. What company is auctioning the material?

John J. Ford has the a better collection of colonial coins than Bill Anton !!!! I doubt anyone knows everything that John J. Ford has because I doubt Mr. Ford himself knows what he has today.

According to the eSylum, Stacks will be handling the sale.

  • I do not believe that JJF ever offered the 44-0 eagle at auction. He may have owned it, but it was sold privately, I believe, to the late Mike Brownlee of Dallas. It is probably available today, if you have some big bucks.

The collection has been in New York for the last couple of months. Whether the Ford collection or the Anton collection is better is a real question mark. Mike Hodder is the one person who knows just what is in the Ford collection. I don't think that anyone (besides Bill) knows the scope of the Anton collection.
