Toned Frankie 63-D worth $800, tone lovers is this for real?

I know that I am new to all of this, but $800.00 opening bid for a toned 1963-D? This seems way out of line even to me.Fairtrader being unfair?

Are people so taken with toned coins that they would pay this price. I would like to hear from tone lovers on this subject.

You normally donrt see a 60s Frankie with that type of toning...... I think the price is to high, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone buys it. Mdwoods has a killer one in a PCGs ms66fbl holder....

  • They have had a couple real nice tonded Franklins lately. Very pricey in my opinion.

  • Interesting, MS 64 PCGS priced as $16 with no FBL, I guess its in the eye of the beholder. Its hard enough knowing how to place a coin in a grade. What is the rule of thumb (price wise) when toning is involved?

when rainbow toning is involved, the rule of thumb price wise is, there isn't a rule of thumb.....

Nice coin but $800 violates my personal sense of value. If that coin's worth $800 to somebody I wonder what this one is worth to that same somebody?

If they get 800.00 for that, I'm going to put some of mine on the market!image
There is no way in hell I'd pay that much, but I guess it is in the realm of possibility that someone will.
Maybe 150.00. But you know, This guy has been a major Franklin Player for years, he may very well know that he can get that insane price. I also wonder how much he would pay one of us for the same coin?

got it at a coin shop in Illinois while searching for Jeffs. It was amongst about 5,000,000 toned Morgans which only got in my way while reaching for this one. It's an NGC MS64. His price was about 3x book and I actually tried to talk him down a little - he laughed at me and I bought it anyway. He knew I wanted it bad - and I usually have a stone cold poker face. I still think I got a good price.

The colors in the picture are a lot more obnoxious than the coin itself. My monitor at home is quite a bit different than everyone else's apparently.

In all fairness it does have XxX COLOR

I am glad for eBays new reserve pricing policy, now I do not get suckered into looking at this guys auctions. The first couple times I bid but did not hit his reserve and got follow up e-mails -> you were high bidder on 'whatever', my reserve of $500 was not hit, but I would consider a reasonable offer -

well no, I bid $200 and that was as much as I wanted to go.

At least now it is an auction with a price seen -> no offense meant FairTraderz, just the way I feel.
  • FaitTraderz' S/H/I seems pretty outrageous to me...$16 on this auction ??

i got burned on the S&H. made an impulse buy and didn't notice the S&H. $6.50 for 1 slab and they don't take even take Paypal. Ouch.

For $6.50 i guess the Queen of England is going to deliver it personally on a velvet pillow. why do I have a feeling it's gonna show up in a bubble envelope with 62¢ in postage on it?

I don't know that they're being unfair - just wishful of tagging onto the toning craze. Personally I don't find this particular Frankie appealing and I will be very surprised if anyone goes for it. As for the S&H they are pretty steep - but they also send you the coins via priority mail, which gets to you pretty quick - I guess you can always talk to them and have them change their mailing mode.
