Marathon Submissions, Continues?

nwcsnwcs Posts: 13,386 ✭✭✭
(Note, I am not slamming the customer support person. She sounds nice, but I am making a legitimate complaint about service.)

Yes, it does! Just got off the phone with PCGS. My submission is still in verify state and not complete. She told me again that it was on the urgent list, but it was on the urgent list a week ago last Thursday. So it is not very urgent. I asked why other, newer, economy submissions have been completed before mine. I was told it would happen if mine had coins they had to research. I do not believe my coins need researching, so here is what I have on this invoice. Tell me if these coins legitimately need extended research. This list is straight from the invoice, in order, and the note I made about it.

2 - 1955 50C Mint set tone
2 - 1955 25C Mint set tone
2 - 1955 1C
2 - 1955D 1C Mint set tone
2 - 1955 5C Mint set tone
1955 10C Mint set tone
1955D 25C Mint set tone
1956D 1C Toned
1950D 5C Toned
1943P 5C
1962 50C Proof toned

Am I off base in expecting that these wouldn't take much research as compared to an early copper or bust coinage?

Neil

Oh, got a slip in the box that my first NGC submission from the Charlotte (3/20) show is waiting for me at the post office.

If you haven't requested some type of attribution, I really don't understand what there is to research.

I didn't ask for any. But there is no excuse for my submission to still be hanging around while others get completed. Unless my submission is actually lost or damaged and they haven't told me. Otherwise, it makes no sense.

Neil, I wonder if the "research" actually involves deciding whether those are AT. That would be a drag to get BBs back, but I do know they have done it in the past with coins pulled directly from mint sets.

They need to dip them to see if that mint set toning comes off...image
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Well, K6AZ got it in before me. The color issue has them scared to a standstill. Everybody and their mother will have to look at those coins. Sorry about your monster delay.

Glad to hear about the rapid turnaround on your NGC submission. image

That's probably what is holding up my submission. It has 11 Morgans in it, nine toned and two PL. They are no-brainers as far as originality, but I think you are correct, with all the doctoring going on, I think they are being very slow and deliberate with anything toned these days.

Yeah, but it shouldn't take that long. Especially since the toning looks right and mint set colors for 1955 aren't an unknown thing. And since I included some other denominations the patterns all fit right..

Well, there is a good sign, the NGC time. I mailed mine to them on the 17th instead of taking them to Charlotte. Perhaps I will get those sometime this week.

    Sure does ...

Jan. 31 -- 21-coin economy submission arrives at PCGS (prior to warning about 50-day business day wait).

March 28 -- First phone call to check on status; told they are in finalization and will be done by April 2.

April 4, 1 p.m. EST -- Another phone call; coins are done, grades have been posted and coins have shipped. Grades should be online shortly.

April 4, 4:45 p.m. EST -- Another phone call; rep cannot understand why grades are not online; I ask, "Can you read them to me?" Starts to rattle off a list of Mercs -- I sent none. Tell him he has wrong order. Asks my name, other info, puts me on hold; mistake has been made, your coins are not done; they only have been seen by one grader, should be done Monday or Tuesday.

Today, 4:35 p.m. EDT -- Another phone call; coins are in finalization; rep cannot tell me when they will be complete. Also cannot explain why economy submissions that have arrived five, six weeks after mine already have grades posted; coins do not require any research or much study, unless they are thrown by proof Jeffs and Roosies and a couple of JFKs. Or, perhaps it was the Washington ...

Should I believe anything -- beyond being told they don't know when they will be done? image

At least you will know when they arrive in the mail. image

Sounds like everyone hears something a bit different. I was told my coins were on the urgent list when I first called March 27 and were done needing finalizing. I call again on April 1 wondering where the grades are since she said that April 1 it should be done. So I wait till today and call and they're still on the urgent list and not finished verifying.

I asked her the same thing, how submissions that came after mine could get done before mine. She didn't know. It's quite frustrating!
  • nwcs, I hear NGC finished both of the submissions they got at Charlotte, yours and Joe Blows!

Is that supposed to be funny? I'm not sure I understand your point. I'm heading to the post office today to get the very first submission I ever sent NGC. In fact, I should have another arrive within a day or two.

A couple of comments, nwcs you have been here long enough to know to ignore wallstreetman. I have been waiting for someone else to say this and if they have I missed it. It should be obvious, that PCGS is trying to discourage economy submissions, coupled with their new policy minimum and the time it is taking to turn them around. I'll let others comment on the reasons why.

<< <i>PCGS is trying to discourage economy submissions >>

Mike, they have succeded if that was their objective, because I am not sending any more coins in to PCGS. I'm sorry, I just can not see a good reason for coins to take 2+ months in my case, and I think Neil is now over 2 1/2 pushing three. When you look at how fast they are turning moderns around, it makes no sense even if different graders do moderns. What really irritates me is that I paid for the Collectors Club membership. I submitted those coins before they announced the long turnaround time, thinking I would have them back in six to seven weeks, and would renew my membership on the following submission. Well, I still don't have my coins back, and the submission I was going to send to PCGS went to NGC, and I did not renew my membership with PCGS.

Do I sound like I am starting to get steamed? image

Well, they've succeeded in taking away any future economy submissions from me.
