WHAT is this?

It's very neat. All the coins appear genuine (at first glance) ....AND...the colors are correct, too. The cent is bronze colored, nickel has the nickel appearance and the silver looks like silver.

Only thing I can figure out is maybe an electrotype of a pile of coins. The edges are reeded where correct and smooth on the cent and nickel. It is a flexible metal and very thin.

Any ideas on how it was made?

    This is the bottom.

  • Wow! Nothing about ANY of those coins looks fake to me. But then seeing the hollowed out backsides-- geez, that is strange! Haven't seen anything like that before.

I wonder what the mint mark was on the 1893 Morgan, before the hollowed it out, and welded it together?

Geoman.....they're not hollowed out. See the lettering from the bottom? The whole thing is incused.

Weird, but likely a very good electrotype copy. An interesting conversation piece.
