Washington Quarter guys: Does this one Look Like a Winner?

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,150 ✭✭✭✭✭
It's tough to tell by the scan- I think the colors would have shown up better in a photo- but this one looks like it has potential to be a real monster.
I know I probably overpaid just a tad, but the Seller's auction description sold me.

I don't collect Washington quarters by series, just singles, but what do you think?
(I'll also post photos when the coin arrives):

  • Pat,

As you know I came in 2nd place in this auction. Personally I too think it has great potential and can't wait to find out just how nice it is. Please post pictures as soon as you receive it. If it's as nice as you and I think perhaps a deal can be struck between us. Let me know if it's nicer than my current 54p below.image

Getting Mitch's and Rick's positive input on this one makes me breath easier as I really don't know these coins well by date/MM. The bonus in all of this is a pleasant exchange of emails with Rick.
The man knows his Washingtons and has the color set to back it up.

    Thanks again guys.
-I'll post photos the day of arrival.

Cool coin! I know Rick also has a 47S PCGS MS66 that looks similar.......imagine 2 of them side-by-side..........nice.

  • Pat,

Interesting acquisition. Three thoughts come to mind:
    1. is there a Mr. X that made this
    2. was it in a bank promotion
    3. did it have anything to do with Utah

    Enjoy it.

    $50 coin.
    Maybe $75 with the color.
  • Craig, I think Pat's 54p will be far nicer than the 47s you are talking about (pictures attached). After going back and looking at the scans in the auction I wish I would have raised my final bid by a few more bucks. By the way Pat, what was your max bid?image

Rick- My (second) max bid was about $15.00 over what I ended up paying, so it was close. It's funny too because as it inched up closer to my first max bid I placed a second max bid later in the day "just in case". Had I not done so I would have lost the coin.

Its tough to tell from that scan.. Looks like the colors could be quite nice in person. I would hope you can post a better scan after you receive the coin and also let us know what you think. Could be a steal!!

My experience with color coins on ebay has been mixed. In some cases -- the colors are NOT as good as the scan; but in others the colors are better -- even MUCH better -- than the scan. Unfortunately, Im afraid Im usually a nailbiter on every ebay coin I get until I receive it. Overall, it's been a 50-50 situation with me --- half I love, half I hate. Let us know please how the coin looks up close. cheers, alan mendelson
  • Looks like a winner to me, Pat.
I had a '49-P that looks similar, also. I traded it for another coin from a fellow member. I had paid a pretty high premium for it originally, and our fellow member offered me the same. Though I hated to part with it, he had a coin that I needed, and I had a coin that he coveted.
If your's looks like I think it will, you got yourself a beauty! image
That might make three that you can possibly get to see side by side by side! image

  • Okay Pat, time to let me know if I should be kicking myself in the head for not bidding a few dollars more. Pictures please...

Rick- If I post a photo or two you'll only be kicking yourself that much harder! I hate to see a grown man hurt himself.
But, at that expense, and at your suggestion, I'll do so. It'll be a couple of days though as we are setting up a new, second computer upstairs tomorrow, first.
