  • $2500 sounds close. Of course it depends on how nice it is.

    ajaan,

Here are Heritage auction prices realized for three that have sold in the past 15 months - I don't know if they were purchased by collectors or dealers and how they compare to the one you are asking about, but this should hopefully give you some indication, at least :

Thank you for the values. Now the story behind this.

At a local coin show run by a buddy of mine I saw a dealer I know. He had an 1863 Indian Cent NGC MS66 RD with him. The 'slab' was placed in a plastic bag with a common copper cent. He was told by a chemist at Kodak, the dealer is from the Rochester, NY area, that the safest way to keep a slabbed RED coin red is to place the slab in an inert bag with another copper coin. This will cause all the ugliness that can happen to copper fall on the common coin and keep the slabbed coin safe. Anyone else ever here of this?

This tidbit could get lost in this thread. Ajaan, how about reposting this chemistry question to a separate thread with a subject line something like "Better Copper through Chemistry?".

I have heard some collectors tell me that they put a new opened roll of pennies in their safe deposit boxes in a small dish. I myself keep a couple of opened Intercept Shield holders in my box and have never had any type of problems.
